Default Green for Larsson Trade

Looking to acquire some picks for this year and next year.

I trade Green, Lucic, 2013 9th, 2012 9th

for

Larsson, 2012 2nd, and 2013 1st.

That will give me 3 out of the top ten picks for 2013. Also leaves me with Doughty, AP, Ellis, Bogosian, and Larsson as my keeper D

Long term is this worth it? I don't care about Lucic, he is a fringe keeper in a points only league. I am just a bit unsure how Green is going to do, or if Larsson will start putting up the points.

Let me know what you think!

If by future, you mean 2-3 years from now, then this really hinges on how Larsson pans out. I think we will see Green hover in the 50 point range with a return to prior form now that Oates is his coach. I don't see Larsson as having 50 point potential, more of a solid two-way d-man with 35ish points consistently, and I think that Jon Merrill is the quarterback on the Devils' PP starting in mid 2013-14.

I would hang on to Green and give it a year to see if he can bounce back. You have a lot of young talent on your roster as it is, so be careful not to fall into the trap where picks and prospects are overvalued, and you find yourself in a state of "perpetual rebuild".

You already have two first rounders in 2013, would adding the one coming your way be a top three pick, or is the team you are dealing with a contender? What picks do you own in the 2012 draft? What number count towards the standings at each position, is it 12F/5D/3D?

I really think you should keep Green, Larsson has Hedman part deux written all over him.

Not close with 15 keepers, is my first reaction.

Larsson isn't a keeper, even at that depth. You can re-draft him if you like in the first couple rounds. He has a long way to go to be of keeper value. You can't peg him for more than 20 points in a season yet. He's a fine talent, but he has a lot of developing to do yet before he's stacking up the points. It could take years, or he could develop into a solid all round D-man used in all situations, but only collecting 20-25 points annually.

Lucic is a keeper. Although his style doesn't produce extra fantasy points, it brings attention to him, and has Fantasy GMs liking him. 60 points is steady and useful in this day and age. Lucic is still young.

Green is still young. You'll cry if he bounces back to 60.

1st is always very nice, and will secure you a player. Be careful though, or you'll be throwing the guy back in the pot after a season. That's happened to me before.

2nd is always nice. Again, you should get a useful player, but likely one that goes back in the pot at the end of the year.

9ths... do your homework, or these picks do go back into the pot consistently.

I want more for my Green than that. He's a great buy low.

While I'm certainly on the Green side of this deal, I really disagree with the bolded points above. In 2-3 years time I think Larsson will be one of the elite top-pairing blue-liners in the league with 50-point potential year in and out. Jon Merrill isn't close to being a threat to his icetime. I'll be very surprised if Merrill is ever able to solidify a spot for himself in the Devils' top-6 with Deboer as the coach. Merrill has too many defensive holes in his game, he's going to need quite a bit of time in the AHL.
