Just going by what I can find in the papers etc. but what is up with Gose riding the pine in the show?
He was/is a top 50 prospect by most pubs. Looking at his line he has not been tearing it up in the Bigs. What is the deal? Is he just bench fodder behind Snider right now? Looks like he is being sat against LHP as well? Is it protection like BJ's Skipper claims or is he just over matched and Snider the better play? Since the Blue Jay insiders/homers seem to dominate this site I thought you all could give me some good info on him as I was excited to see him get the call, but much less excited to see he has only 14 ABs after being called up for 11 days. There is an expectation he plugs a major hole in one of my favorite leagues, but this is not the way I was hoping his tenure in the Bigs started.

He is just getting outplayed by Snider and I fully expect Gose to be sent back down once Bautista gets back in the lineup. Snider has been hitting well, hitting for power, knocking in runs, and playing very well in the outfield. In many ways, the way he's performed thus far this season is exactly what the Jays were hoping he would turn out to be on a regular basis. We'll see if he can keep it up.
Gose just didn't look good in his limited showings...it kind of looked to me like he was playing like a boy among men. He wasn't doing a great job defensively, misreading a handful of balls in the outfield, he wasn't hitting, and he wasn't doing a good job in the leadoff spot as he'd often be out on 3 pitches or less. Not to mention Lawrie returning quickly after that injury set the lineup back in order, with Encarnacion taking the place of Bautista. Unless Rajai Davis is traded, I think Gose is sent back down once Bautista is back and gets another look in September. Anyways that's my two cents as a Jays fan. |

He's still very young and the Jays would rather give Snider the playing time over Gose right now. Gose' best assets are his arm, speed and baserunning ability and of course his glove.
Other parts of his game are lacking, but that's because he'a still developing as a player. The Jays wanted to see exactly where Gose stands and it's clear he needs more time in the minors. He was the only guy they could call up other than Snider once Bautista went down. Still a very bright future for this kid.

Of course the day that I post this he has his first RBI and first stolen base as well
. Even though I think the base hit he was awarded was a gimme stat because Fielder played it horribly. And of course as I post THIS he runs into the wall at full speed chasing a foul ball lol. |
