Im in a h2h keeper league with 12 teams, with most teams drafting forwards and goalies I decided to take a different approach and go for top end talent on the backend.
My keepers include Subban, Campbell and recently aquired Suter as well as I need one more. I currently have OEL, Elliot, Beaulieu, Cowen and Gardiner on my prospect roster and dont want to activate any one else this year. My question is I have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds 2 firsts and 2 seconds and I am looking at who I should take early and who I can wait until later with, im looking at: Schultz, Dumba, Reilly, Faulk, McDonaugh, Voynov, Barberio, Klefbom and Morrow. Out of these the first 3 I assume wont make it out of the first round so who should I take, out of the next 3 they are available but not as prospects in my league and the final 3 I assume will go later, I included Barberio just because of the system the lightning play and his potential to become a top offensive defenseman on that team. If anyone can offer any thoughts or hell scrap my list and offer there own that would be much appreciated. |

1. Schultz
2. Voynov 3. Morrow Are the three best keeper owns on that list, in my books.

Hard to follow the man himself but I like Faulk at the top of the list. Already playing big minutes in the NHL.
Faulk Voynov (maybe a little playoff bias here) Schultz (but depends a little on where he ends up) edit; I just want to add that you seem to have a tonne of young talent already on D. Can you keep it all? Would it be better served to trade some for NHL established players?

We have a prospect roster that allows for us to hold guys for up to 3 years, but only if drafted before they hit the 30 game mark. Since every other teams strategy was to draft goalies and forwards I obviously obtained a set of great veteran defenseman as well as prospects and rookies. I want to keep this my strategy as for example I picked up Campeel last draft cuz he was dropped took him in the 5th round and now and packaging him to obtain either a high scoring forward or a goalie for next season. I've come in second now 3 out of 5 years in the playoffs and managed to obtain seguin and a 3rd overall pick by trading some vets during the season.
Thanks for the advice, I really like Faulk to just don't like how the hurricanes use there defencemen, last year I traded away a late first round pick wilhich would have obtained murphy, but now I have 3rd overall. Second part of the question assuming Yakupov goes 1st to Edmonton or Columbus, would you take Grigorenko or Galcheynuk? I'm think Grig just cuz of his size and the hopes he lands on Montreal with there young core and not Toronto... |

I like the strategy, its like moneyball, find the value where others are missing the value.
I would say OEL as the #1 Defenseman in the future, and if you have Subban, Campbell, Suter, and OEL you are pretty set for defensemen. I would hold off until the 2nd round to take anymore defensemen, if your league is forward/goalie obsessed some of those defensemen will slip to you. Faulk, Voynov,Schultz would be my order. As for Grigorenko or Galcheynuk i really have no idea, all i know is that they aren't Yakupov and this isn't a very top heavy class so you could go either way here.

Cats are G/A/PTS/+-/PIM/SOG/STP, also I just traded Campbell for Hamilton and 5th overall pick, I dont see him at 50+ points in two seasons and I feel I could get a replacement at 5th overall. His shots and penalty minutes make him about an average defencemen in our league and I got him in the 7th round last year when every bocked at his 27 point season and move to Florida, I like my trade
