10 team mixed league keeper 6x5(add slg)
starting 2 of every infield, 5OF, 1util, 9P with 10 bench reserve My RP are: Mariano Rivera, Francisco Rodriguez (NYM) and Trevor Hoffman. I have one "Free" FA pickup, all others will cost $1 and come off my 2011 auction budget (base $300). I can pick up F.Rodney and drop J.Nathan (due to inflation both would be keepable at $10 next year - minimum keeper salary) or I can pick up F.Francisco off waivers for a $3 charge against my auction budget (also keepable for $10). Rodney or Francisco would be a hedge for Hoffman. Carrying Nathan is a luxury, but with Hoffman's early issues (and self-admitted worry), I'm wondering if I should invest in another closer as an insurance policy. I was hoping to use my free pickup on somebody like drew storen, carlos santana or eric young jr when they get called up. Should I go get one of them or keep the faith in Hoffman?

I would stick with Hoffman for now. He's got a long leash since there really isn't any other closing options in the Brewers 'pen. Hoffman is one of the more consistent and safer closers, he should return to his steady ways soon.
Rodney isn't a sure thing either so it probably does make sense to save your free move. |

Gotta agree with MM12. Hoffman's off to an inconsistent start but aside from the St. Louis game, he hasn't been as bad as his statistics would suggest. Rodney converted his save chances in Detroit last season at a great rate, but his peripherals aren't very good, he no longer strikes out a batter/batter+ an innings, and Scot Shields will likely get a chance to close at some point as well. Furthermore, Fuentes shouldn't be out THAT long; best guess is something in the 1-2 week range unless something major is found.
