Default Ranking D vs. Forwards?

League details are in the signature below.

Two part question.

#1
As you can see I'm thinking of keeping 3 D. The bubble guy is Mike Richards. The thought process is that historically in our league D and Goalies are a HOT commodity in the first 3-4 rounds of the Draft, and there are usually some excellent forwards available in the draft. The three D that I'm keeping are, in my opinion, multi-cat monsters. The first question is would you drop one of them to keep M. Richards (Historically a multi-cat guy, but has been disappointing this year on a team that struggles to produce).

#2
The second question is more fundamental, how would you rank D vs Forwards in a keeper situation.

Roto league like yours, id keep the 3D studs over MRich. JUst for the same rationalization you had mentioned. Siiiiick...keepers.

As for the 2nd question. Ofcourse it will depend if its a roto or points only. Also, how many active dmen your league start. And the size of your league.

I draft high end dmen early (weber, letang, buff,etc..)if its a roto league, start more than 4, and bigger size pool. Meaning id want to secure at least top 3-4 dman on the 1st half of draft.

I like your plan.. I think Subban would be huge in that league. 2 hits equals a goal? does Matt Martin go in the first round? He basically gets a hattrick every game

I guess I should clarify. 2 hits do not equal a goal. This league is a weighted rotisserie league, therefore if your team totals in hits ranks you first then you get 65 points and it drops by 5 points every rank after that (so if you rank 2nd in hits you get 60 points, etc). If your team ranks 1st in goals you get 130 points and then the weighting goes down accordingly.

I should also add that our league is considering making Hits and Blocked shot the same weighting as the other categories, namely 130 points. We are also considering adding Shots on goal as a full category (i.e. 130 points). This is another reason I'm seriously considering keeping Subban.

I am in a similarly scored rotisserie league.

Every year someone attempts to keep 3D...strangely enough ...they never finish in the money.

Unless your league has separate categories for D-Men and do not combine them with forwards, a forward will always outperform a D-Man.

Someone you expect to be a stud will disappoint you and someone who was a stud in the previous year will crash and burn (Doughty, Green, etc.)...and another D-Man will emerge.

I'm in the minority here but I go with Richards...he's young and adjusting to the West Coast...and he's performed at the high level before...I expect him to return to form.

Or you could add a category for Slew Footing and Subban would be the ideal keeper.
