Not for nothing, but I couldn't blame Schultz for waiting it out. In the summer there would be teams lining up and rolling out the red carpet for him, giving him the choice to sign anywhere he chooses - pretty amazing for a young kid like that. Not that playing in Anaheim is a bad thing, but knowing that teams like NY, Philly, DET, Montreal, Toronto, Chicago and Boston will all most likely be gushing over you is pretty appealing.

It would really come down to what team he wanted to play for and the organization since the money would be the same anywhere.

No doubt. But choosing where you play at this age is a huge perk, especially if it's a team like Detroit or NYR where you can be very successful and boost your value and status tremendously.

Without a doubt. He gets to pick a contender right away and challenge for the cup.

I think its an exciting situation for him. Although i think he signs with Ana. Part of what makes him so phenominal is his character. Reading reports from his coach and college newspaper about how he has really been a good teamate and taken a leadership role throughout the progression of his career. I dont see him bailing on the team that drafted him and has never really had a chance to sign him.

It would be different if the ducks had no intention of signing him but they do, and i think he will show some loyalty to them. Its in his character to do so.

I asked a writer who covers U of Wisconsin hockey (@UWChuckSchwartz on twitter) to rank the last few top D-men through their system and he ranked them Schultz, Smith, McDonagh, Gardiner, McBain. Not fantasy rankings, mind you, but being on top of that list is pretty impressive.

I can see him wanting to join his good buddy in T.O.

But being loyal and signing with the Ducks would be the right choice!!
