He's plain vanilla on the PP. I look for players that control the play and whose shooting skills are suited for PP situations. Currently, with PP down a lot, that isnt as big a factor as it was previously. A good playmaking partner on the pt in Carolina would improve his status. I think he has low downside risk but I just like the upside potential of the others more.

Interesting take buddy. I love Faulk's shot from the point and have been impressed with his hockey sense. The one area in which I think he could improve is his skating/foot speed - this is where the others do have him beat right now.

I'd say next year, Faulk and Brendan Smith are the better bets for pts. That's if Detroit is putting Smith on the PP, which would only happen often if Lidstrom retires, though.
Hamilton won't likely make the NHL next year, and if he does, he'll have a limited role.
OEL is a great player, but Phoenix doesn't score much and they have Yandle, and I don't think he'll have that many opportunities.

Long term I rank them, in term of offensive upside:
-Smith (Incredibly smart player, good shot, good passer, can hit and takes penalties. He could be a 55 pt 100PIM defender, which is huge. Upside is 60 imho)
-Faulk (I like his ability to read the play, and his shot. He doesn't have the tremendous upside I feel Smith has, but he's becoming more comfortable in the offensive end in the NHL. He developed quick last year, and he's developed quick this year. I can only assume he'll continue to improve. I set his upside at 55 points, more likely he'll average 45-50 if he pans out)
-OEL (because he'll be relied on too heavily defensively to get as many key PP minutes as the others, and won't likely take the helm of a PP. See Ryan Suter or at best, Alex Edler. IF he gets the opportunity, though, he could leapfrog Faulk and edge him out in upside, as I figure he has the skills to put up 55-60)
-Hamilton (Don't like his offensive game as much as the others. He's made strides, but from what I've seen, which admittedly is only about 8 games this year, I think he'll struggle to translate it to the bigs. He hesitates a bit too often when pressured on the PP, and as good of a passer as he is, I think that could bite him in the ass in the pros. He has improved a lot though, and he might surprise. Still, I don't see him as a big upside guy, but if he pans out he could very well put up 30-40 pts regularly. Upside of 45 if he is really thrown into a good situation and is keyed in an offensive role)
