Default Colborne or Baertschi?

Thinking about dropping Colborne. Do you see Baertschi being the better option in the league in my sig? Potential calder contender next season?

don't see Bartschi making an impact next year but I have both players and would rather have him over Colborne for sure

I actually started another thread about Barstchi last night. This kid is 19 and is tearing up the CHL, playing at a 2 PPG average. Some people who watch him are absolutely raving about him. To answer your question, I would definitely take him over Colborne, who is turning into a classic project. Colborne is a big body with some nice hands but he is soft as a marshmallow and I wonder how he'll fare in a Carlyle/Burke system.

Just went through your post. Should have scrolled a little and it would have made my decision quicker. He seems to be compared to a lot of top players, which IMO makes him worthy of a pickup. Any guesstimated projections? Is he capable of topping 40pts next season? I guess in my league its tough to hold on to players that can't produce because we do not have a minor system. Holding onto an NA player basically makes you shorthanded. Some guys are worth it like Huberdeau. Right now I am out of the money so I have a few NA players and I can just decide over the summer which I want to keep.

If you can add him to your roster and evaluate him over the summer I would go for it. As for 40 points, not sure about that - he might not even make the Flames out of camp. If he doesn't he could be a mid-season call up. At this point though I wouldn't bank on 40 from him next season.

Just to point out a couple things. Colborne has always been a project. From the point he was picked in the first round, he was labelled a project. Nothing's changed, and he hasn't developed into a project player, he just always was.

And secondly saying he's soft as a marshmallow is a huge misnomer. It makes him out to be a player thats easy to intimidate, easy to push off the puck. That's very far from the truth. He's Thornton like, in that he uses his body to protect the puck. That he doesn't drive you through the boards shouldn't be used as an argument against him because its not the type of game you would want him to play.

BUt to the OP, I would take Baerstchi over him. He just seems to be a more likely option to be in the NHL sooner.

reinjosh, you are correct - Colborne uses his size to protect the puck like Thornton, but he has ZERO snarl (and from what I've heard from a few Leafs fans who have watched him closely) he refuses to go into the dirty areas to score. That's not good news when you're 6-5, 220. Thornton is not Lindros but he'll at least throw a few big hits, get very dirty and even fight if he has too.

This comes all down to if you have a lot of Leafs fans in your league or not.
Usually i take Bärtschi here but as with every Leafs prospects you need a hot run from the guy and you can get a start player for him..

Thats actually a very good point I did not consider. There are a lot of people from Ontario in my league. I did end up doing the drop of Colborne for Baertschi, but I don't know if anyone will grab him regardless. He was in the FA pool all season before I picked him up a few weeks ago. I also need to cut down on NA players by next season since I want to win and I can't keep all these basically empty spots on my roster. I guess I am hoping to have some young/up and comers for trade chips next season, in hopes to move them for some more established guys on re-building teams. I also picked up Holtby recently who I am hoping ends up being Washingtons backup next season, so I am planning on holding on to him.
