Here is the offer I received: Jeff Carter + first round (his team is in 7) for Anze Kopitar + third round. (I am in 2)

It is obvious to me I need to upgrade on my right wing. We keep 2-C, 2-RW, 2-LW, 2-D, 1-G. The draft will have some good options. Is the trade a good one or should I be able to get more for kopitar?

How many teams are in this league and is it a snake draft ie - what is the value of his 1st. (as in what # would be overall) and the value of your 3rd.

11 teams in the league. Yep, snake type draft. Bottom 3 put into lottery for 1st pick.

His first would be 5th overall. My third would be 32.

I read your first post wrong and now I changed my mind. You actually keep 9 players which is quite a bit, reducing the value of a 1st round/5th overall.

So I would not do this trade. You should be able to get a Patrick Kane straight up for Kopitar imo. Or else just sit tight and draft Yakupov (RW) with your first pick.

Dont think you need to sacrifice your 1st rd and downgrade to 3rd on this deal. Koivu = Carter.

Ya gotta make an effort to add a little bit more value if you want to sell your 1st rd. Add more depth to your lineup to give you that extra push for 1st place if you have/want to give up that 1st rd pick.

I would do it if your goal is to gain a keeper RW at the expense of a non keeper C.

That being said, you have to monitor Carter. If he's only playing C on LA, he could lose dual elig by next year. (I think) he's only played Center in Columbus as well.
