Happy valentine day folks. Hope everyone is looking forward to a romantic night of hockey watching tonight. Last night was a little light with only three games, but these were the Studs and Duds
Studs Eric Stalls surging Habs Montreal's four game winning streak ended as the Hurricanes, led by former Habs Jaroslav Spacek and coach Kirk Muller. But it was Captain Eric Staal who did most of the damage with an impressive stat line of two goals (one short handed), one assist, +3, and six shots on goal. Stall is hot right not with five points in the last two games. Sharks working their mo-Joe The Joes combined for a seven point night against the Capitals last night. Pavelski had two goals (one on the power play), two assists, +1 with five shots on goal and now has 10 points in his last seven games. Thornton had three assists, +1, one shot on goal and had a 69% face-off win. Thornton now has 12 points in his last seven games. NHL Three Studs of the week The NHL's three studs...er...stars of the week were Smith, Malkin, and Perron. Mike Smith posted four straight wins with a GAA of 0.74 & a save % of .975 Evgeni Malkin had 3 goals and 5 assists and was + 6 in three games. David Perron scored six goals and was +5 in four games. Honorable Mentions Jaroslav Spacek scored an emotional goal in his return to Montreal. Ryan Kesler scored the shoot out winning goal to give Vancouver the win. Thomas Greiss saved 39 of 42 shots posting a .928 save % in last nights win over Washington. Duds Ovechkins All-Star performance Ovechkin was a no show at the All-Star game, and last night. Despite playing 26:45 minutes in the game he had no points. Trade Dud line The NHL trade deadline is losing its appeal each day. Off the market by being resigned are Nielsen, Prospal, and Sutton. Ruutu left last nights game with a groin injury possibly taking him off the market. I don't think the Riley Holzapfel for Maxime Macenauer trade is going to set off a chain reaction! I Choo-Choo Choose you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yY_LtUQlHKs the title has nothing to do with this dude but I had to have that in on Valentines day! Zack Rinaldo was slapped with a 2 game suspension for this hit on Ericsson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xtHd...layer_embedded I don't have a problem with the suspension but Ericsson really needs to look where he is going! Dishonorable Mentions Tim Thomas has posted another political statement on facebook. Does he really believe that because it is his "personal" account that despite the fact he is a public figure and facebook is a public forum that he is not poking the bear? Caps defense pair of Carlson and Alzner combined for a minus four in last nights game.
