Default Starting goalies

Does anyone believe it is a smart idea to start

Fleury @ NJ against Brodeur
(Brodeur has 2-0-0 with 1.00 GAA this season against the Pens)

Rask @ WSH against Vokoun
(Rask has 0-2-1 with 3.45GAA this season against the Caps)

What should I do??? I need the wins bad to stay on top but I feel like I lose out if I don't play them and they end up winning.

EDIT: I have Fleury and Rask of course

I think Fleury is more likely to get the W here, and he's on a nine-game win streak as well. PIT and Malkin are also playing lights out atm. Brodeur, on the other hand, has been very inconsistent this season.

Rask and BOS have been in a bit of a slump lately, but they're bound to bounce back eventually since they're still arguably the best team in the league. Despite his shutout last night, Vokoun has been up-and-down all season.

Bottom line, both Fleury and Rask are good starts, and you might as well play them both if you need the Ws. I doubt either of them will get lit up anyway.

You answered your own question. You need wins and they're both solid so why wouldn't you play them? You are overthinking the matchups. I'd rather start them and it backfires than a good performance on my bench. This isn't a decision on crappy goalies like Steve Mason and Brent Johnson.

I forgot to mention that if they do end up losing there are repercussions, like -2.00 points for a loss ontop of the -0.25 for each goals against and that is huge in my league if your goalies lose. If they win you are golden. So if i can avoid starting losing goalies then I stay even on points without losing any. My question ultimately boils down to "do I take the risk and start them or play safe and not start them"? are these goalies a no-brainer start even though they have terrible stats against the teams they are playing?

That's the risk you take in fantasy hockey. In my opinion, if you overthink the matchups and bench good goalies because of them, it would hurt even more if they have a good start. Why have these goalies then? Also you are looking at a small sample, who says it will continue? Furthermore, how is benching them playing it safe? You need wins 'bad to stay on top' - you won't get them on the bench.

Anyway, in the end it's your decision. Good luck.

Thank you! That makes a lot of sense lol you're right I'm overthinking it haha no point having the players if you don't play them. Thanks really appreciate it!

Wait for confirmation on Raask's start. Raask has not been winning and he only started earlier in the week b/c Thomas looked aweful in 1st game back from AS break. In other words, Raask was given his start earlier than planned. With Boston's next game on Wednesday and needing to get things back on track, don't be surprised if it's Thomas today.

there's no harm in starting Rask cuz I don't lose or gain any points for doing so but I'm pretty sure that Rask will get the start becuz Bos is coming off a back-to-back game and usually Rask starts 100% of the time on a back-to-back.
