We are a 15 team league with being able to keep players for only 2 years. We have 20 players (12F - 6D - 2G). We are allowed to keep 10 players going into the 2nd year. Finally we track 6 categories for the F & D (G, A, Pts, +/-, SOG, & Pims) and 2 for the goalies (Wins and Save %).
As it stands now here are the 10 players Im projecting to keep. Lecavalier Sakic Langkow Erat Stafford Sullivan - Carter Rafalski Coburn Budaj Players not protecting but able to: Antropov Hudler Kalus Schremp Callahan - Olesz Barker Gilbert Mason Now with the fire sale in Nashville is it worth to keep Erat and will Mason be a better pick than Budaj. Another option is to keep both Goaltenders and only protect 6 forwards. Thanks in advance for your opinions. Randallizer

As far as D goes, who is available in your draft...might be better options than Coburn.. |

Thanks Dynamo for your opinion. In answer to your question it is Jeff Carter. There will be good quality defenseman available in the draft but they will be very expensive and I may not have the cap room to get them. I was hoping that Coburn who I have very cheap could be a surprise but now I\'m not so sure since they acquired Timonen.
Regards

Hello Dynamo:
I like your option of keeping both goaltenders, Mason and Budaj, and protecting 6 forwards rather than 7. If you were to consider that approach I would drop Stafford from the protected list. Mason will be the starter. Mason will get more wins than Budaj. I don\'t think that Nashville\'s team has changed that much with the loss of Timonen and Hartnell. Weber will pick up more minutes and points. Hartnell, from a fantasy perspective, doesn\'t have a high upside. If you were to only protect one goaltender then I would select Mason over Budaj. It would also depend on what situation can bring you the most points. Usually goaltenders have high value so I am assuming that to be the case in your pool. Does the 2 goalie system bring you potentially more upside than the 7 forward system? It likely would, thus you might want to consider keeping Mason and Budaj. On defence I would prefer to own Gilbert rather than Coburn. I don\'t think Coburn is going to be a high scoring defenceman. My thoughts for what it is worth. |

Thanks Hockeylifer for your comments.
The goalies are important in our pool as we rate wins and save %. Having 2 starters will also give me the luxury of a trade down the road. I was currently leaning to your thinking with one exception. I would have only protected one defenseman, Rafalski, I thought that i would have more upside potential with Stafford. Gilbert had started hot but had slowed down. Plus, with Edmonton apparently looking for a go to D-Man, I would wait and see on how the proceed. Regards

I agree Randallizer. Stafford will do more for you than a defenceman. Good Luck.
