Travis Zajac (Achilles tendon) might make his season debut as early as Friday's game against Dallas. "That will be the earliest," said Zajac after Sunday's practice. "We'll see how this week goes and then we'll talk it over with (GM) Lou (Lamoriello) and the coaches. I'll concentrate on getting in a couple more good practices and we'll see. I feel good, though." He isn't expected to play during New Jersey's two-game road trip in Florida that will see the Devils play the Lightning on Monday and the Panthers on Tuesday. |

On to some brighter news from all this concussion talk. Travis Zajac had a productive practice today and is still on schedule to be returning to the line up for Friday's game. He will most likely be lining up with Elias and Kovalchuk well Zach Parise will stay with Adam Henrique.

Update:
Zajac (Achilles) will skate with David Clarkson and Mattias Tedenby when he makes his season debut Friday, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports. Recommendation: This "third line" designation is not a bad situation for Zajac, who usually plays alongside Zach Parise. The Devils are reluctant to separate their top two lines, but Zajac's linemates are solid players that will be counted on in all game situations; Clarkson is one of the team's leading scorers with nine goals and Tedenby has shown flashes of talent that a center of Zajac's calibre could bring out more often. It's a matter of time before Zajac finds his timing and he will see power play time. Zajac typically plays at a pace of two points for every three games when healthy. Agreed, now I'm just waiting for the time he starts skating regular shifts with Parise. But, more likely, I'm waiting for him to regain his faceoff form, he hasn't been as good as he was last year so far. Still shaking off the rust, I'd have to think.
