Default Few quick questions

Just wondering what your thoughts were on a few topics.

I currently have S.Neidermayer in my keeper pools but I am hearing a few rumors that he might consider retirement. Should I be worried and try to trade him away during the off-season or keep him?

Next question is what you guys think of P.Kessel and Erat. What would you project their numbers to be next season and who would you keep?

I wouldn\'t worry about the retirement talk. Scott is at the top of his game, has a nice contract, and has been relatively injury free.

That said it wouldn\'t necessarily be a bad idea to investigate his value. I would think he has peaked numbers wise. He might maintain this level for a few years but his value on the trade front has to be considered very high right now. Trade him if you can get a proven top young player for him but nothing less.

Erat will probably help you more next year but Kessel has the higher ceiling. Really depends on what you are looking for. Do you want to win next year or are you willing to wait for Kessel?

I\'ve got the same question for Niedermayer. He\'s one of the best fantasy defensemen, so I would trade him for top stuff. My problem for trading him now, is that all of my fellow pool friends know about the retirement rumour, so they won\'t give me back too much. I also own Selanne. If I get two retirements, I\'m screwed for next season.

---
Erat for immediate production, Kessel for the long run. I wouldn\'t surprise me if Kessel gets between 50 an 60 pts next season.

I might hold on to him for the 07-08 season but I\'ll start making some trade offers for a young defenceman. I might try to get Carle I doubt he\'ll give him up.

I am definitely not looking to win next season as I took over the last place team in a keeper pool. I may be looking to improve in the standings a little bit but I am quite far from being a serious contender. However, I will be drafting Backstrom this coming draft so the future looks promising so far, except for my aging defencemen lol.

I would be very surprised to see Niedermayer retire. He still has a great game. They just won the cup and Mr. Burke will do everything that he can to keep Niedermayer and Pronger in the core. When he starts the year in Anaheim I would start making some trade inquiries for top players that a fill a need on your team. You know that when there is talk that it does tell you that he is considering the possibility. If they were to win another cup then I could certainly see him making the decision to retire (or not). You have an asset that can bring you a quality player in return. Pursue it when the season begins, with Niedermayer in the lineup.

I don\'t believe that Scotty - or anyone - doubts his ability to still play. But because I don\'t think that had anything to do with the possibility of retirement in the first place, I also do not believe that \"he can still play\" is a reason to dismiss those rumors.

It may very well be that, having won four Cups, won the Conn Smyth, possibly another Norris, and having had the chance to hand the Cup to his brother, he\'s just ready for life after hockey. It\'s not like he has to worry about having enough money for retirement...

Well said Giraffe. I do think that Burke will do everything that he can to ensure that he returns for another run at the cup. I could then see him stepping away regardless of whether they win or not. It might come down to whether or not he actually misses the game in a couple of months time. I could see Brian Burke dangling a \'carrot\' for him to play, another year, in return for a future with the organization in another capacity. The guy has a lot to offer in a capacity other than playing.

It\'s a case of buy low - sell high.
You can not trade him now...due to the rumors - you will not get true value for him. If you really want to trade wait until the rumors die down and then make a move. Of course by then, he will be great again and you won\'t want to trade him.
