Default Toivonen or Leclaire

Which one of these two young goalies would you keep in your keeper league? They were both once very great goalie prospects, although both of their stocks seem to have dropped. Leclaire due to constant injuries and Toivonen due to injuries and the arrival of Tim Thomas. Which one has the most potential of still becoming a quality NHL starter, and valuable to a fantasy squad?

I could also choose not to keep any of these two and keep an additional $3 fantasy money (we all start with $20 per season, although I now have $30 due to trades). This could possibly help me sign another free agent goalie in our auction. Possible free-agent goalie that could be available are: Hasek, Roloson, Kolzig, Theodore, Bryzgalov or Legace, Cloutier, Joseph, Aebischer, Auld, Gerber and Niittymaki. If I go this route, who should I target with my bids?

I\'d keep the money and the flexibility. neither goalie has shown they will be of any value any time soon.

Hasek will play well but for only one more year. Bryzgalov could inherit the number one role if Giggy signs somewhere else.

I\'d say be patient and wait till one of the goalie shows some signs of life or Giggy signs somewhere else.

Get Legace. Andy Murray plays a defence first style of play. From all the reports I\'ve heard Legace is training hard in the offseason. This plus his improved play as the season progressed puts him at the top of my list. He is the #1 starter on a St.Louis team that will surprise some. With Andy Murray\'s system he will have good GAA & SV% stats and because St.Louis is not seen as a strong team will generally be undervalued. He may not be the sexy choice but I would take meat & potatoes substance over sizzle any day. Kolzig is the only other guaranteed starter but will probably cost you more as a result of the Ovechkin/Backstrom factor. He will end up with worse numbers than Legace.

I am going to agree with \'puck face\'. Legace for immediate benefit with Bryzgalov being the second choice.

Bryzgalov is going to be a starter for the future.

I am unsure about Toivonen or Leclaire.

I think Hockeylifer hit the nail on the head. Legace will be good or should be good but Bryzgalov with Gigy gone will be a starter on a really great team. I am also unsure on Toivonen and Leclaire. Rask is the Bruins future goalie I believe, and Leclaire?? Still young yet.

I would also take Legace, unless of course Giggy signs somewhere else, and then Bryz would be my pick

Let me add to this a little. I agree with what\'s been said about Legace and the Anaheim situation. Are you looking for a long-time goaltender for your team or are you plugging a hole that you can re-fill next year the same way you\'re contemplating now?

At least consider Hasek. I know he\'s a quick look in the rearview mirror away from two months on IR, but his numbers on a terrific Detroit team [that should be just as good] were amazing. If he\'d played 65 games he\'d easily have over 40 wins with very few losses. Just a thought.

If Edmonton actually improves over the coming year Roloson might be worth a look for the year after (08/09).
