Default Mattias Tedenby

Hey everyone, was just wondering if anyone could provide me with some insight on Tedenby. I searched old threads but couldn't find any recent threads on him.

I haven't seen him play a whole lot, but I remember watching a TOR vs. NJD game where he ripped a nice one-timer past Reimer.

What's the deal with him? What kind of a player is he? I've heard that Tedenby plays well with Kovalchuk, is there anything to that rumour/can we expect to see that combination for 5 on 5 play? What kind of expectations are realistic for this coming season/is he a lock to make the team, etc.

Any information is more information than I have now lol, so its much appreciated. Thanks.

I've watched him quite a bit, both with NJ and with Team Sweden bfore that. The kid can play. For a small guy, he doesn't back down. He will drive to the net, he has some very nifty moves, and is a clutch goal scorer. He has a decent shot, but his real asset is his ability to jump on loose pucks and score a lot of dirty goals. He is small, fast, and shifty and will beat a lot of people to loose pucks.

I think at his peak he can score 30 goals, 40-45 assists. For the upcoming season, I'd hope for 50. That might seem a bit high, but I believe he gets some time with Kovalchuk and some PP time. 20 goals, 30 assists is very possible.

Thanks SeaDawg, appreciate your input as always. Its great to get a response from someone who's watched him extensively, and I'm liking what I read.

I was hoping that he might be able to post up 40-45 points for me this coming season so it looks like I wasn't far off. I hope you're right about the 50 though haha. I'm just hoping that he gets some regular minutes with Kovalchuk

If anyone else has anything else they'd like to add that would be great.

I think SeaDawg is probably pretty accurate with his statements. Also keep in mind until NJ names a head coach, we cant be to sure on how he'll be used , PP, even strength, etc.

SeaDawg's take on Tedenby is very good IMO. He is not a flashy Swedish dangler - he will score most of his goals by winning the battle to a loose puck or tapping in some garbage near the paint. He is quick and shifty, but in terms of "style", I compare him more to a Saku Koivu type than a Michael Nylander. Saku is the better playmaker, but Tedenby is quicker, potentially a better goal scorer, and has the same type of heart and determination.

The one thing I feel I can add that SeaDawg didn't really mention is just how fast Tedenby is. He's already one of the fastest skaters in the NHL and likes to take the puck to the net after beating defenders wide.

I've heard a lot of talk that Kovalchuk-Josefson-Tedenby might be the Devils 2nd line next season. Josefson might move down a line but I think it's a safe bet Tedenby will be playing with Kovy.

Totally agree here from what I've seen and heard. There is a lot of talk of something like Parise-Zajac staying together because of past chemistry, and then I assume Elias would be the third on that line.

I've heard a lot of rumours that Josefson is being groomed to be Kovie's Centerman, and Tedenby would surely make a great addition to that line.

Fromwhat I've seen, Tedenby to me would be similar to a Grabner. I'd expect a top line of 30-35G and maybe 65 pts.
