With Filatov's new lease on life in Ottawa, us long suffering owners have good cause for excitement but with that excitement come trade offers from other GM's looking to still use a bit of a 'buy low' opportunity on the kid. Now I try to manage my teams by the stock market maxim of buy low sell high but I am receiving some intriguing offers, mostly in the form of draft picks. So I'm having a tough time deciding......is Filatov a 'buy low' or a 'sell high'?
If you added Filatov to this years draft class where would you guys slot him in? Standard league scoring categories but goals are weighted higher. Cheers |

RNH
Huberdeau Strome Landeskog Filatov/Larsson (depends on positional needs, I guess) Zibanejad Couturier Murphy Something like that, anyway...I have a hard time ranking dmen with forwards because so much depends on team need. Still, that gives you an idea. I'd put Filatov ahead of most of the forwards in the 2011 class. For what it is worth, I just traded Filatov fo Ennis in one of my leagues. I'd say that he is still a boom or bust player, but that if you can get a good return for him, you should probably do it because in two months, if he starts slowly in Ottawa, his trade value will completely vanish. This really is the last chance for Filatov, and literally your last chance to deal him, unless you can afford to get nothing for him if he bombs in Ottawa.

That is much higher than the picks I've been offered so far. Thanks for the insight! |

in that case, just hang onto Filatov. He is no more a gamble than Bartschi, Armia, etc. (forwards taken in the mid to late first round), and I'd just stick with him because his upside is so much higher.

Agree with this. And you'll know whether the gamble pays off more quickly. I think there's some value to that.

excellent point...Bartschi, Armia, Phillips, Scheifele, Miller, McNeill...they are all gambles, but you won't know for years if the gamble paid off. With Filatov, you will know within a few months. I concur that there definitely is value in that.

Thanks for all the thoughts guy!
I was definitely leaning towards seeing this Filatov thing out but wanted to know if anyone would talk me out of it. Completely agree with the sentiment of 'finding out sooner rather than later' with Filatov. I have love for the prospect hunt and hate for the hype all rolled into one but one thing I never like to do is delay my shot at the title. |

SeaDawgs analysis is strong.
2011 forward draftees that I would prefer over Filatov at this point: - RNH - Landeskog - Strome - Zibanejad Filatov would slot in just behind those guys on my list but it's not too much of a difference. Baertschi, McNeil, Armia, Scheifele and Puempel would be the players to follow. I do like Filatov's chances in Ottawa and since your league rewards goals he becomes even more valuable. RNH, Strome, Huberdeau, Landeskog, Zibanejad, Couturier, Baertschi, McNeil, Armia - I'd take these guys over Filatov.
