Default Offensive defenceman

Would you do this?

Drop Vlasic? Pickup Cory Murphy of Florida or Kris Russell of CBJ?

Vlasic had a great junior career. His defence for San Jose has been outstanding. I am wondering if he will get the opportunity to show his offensive side behind Carle and Ehrhoff.

Would you drop Vlasic and draft Murphy or Russell? Russell looked ordinary at the Memorial Cup. I know that CBJ is looking for the pp quarterback. Could Russell be the guy or is that to much to ask?

I think Murphy is 29 years so I considered that he might have immediate upside because of the experience factor.

Your thoughts?

Of the three, given time to wait, I would prefer to own Russell. He has the highest upside, but may also take longer to develop. I think that I am in the minority in believing that he could make the team out of training camp next season. If he does, and assuming CLS doesn\'t sign Souray or another major UFA defenseman (which would likely knock him off the roster anyway), then hello powerplay...

I don\'t know all that much about Murphy, but I seem to recall Dobber being pretty high on him for next season. I think Vlasic could put up 35-38 next year but will max out at 40-45 a season. Russell, I could see putting up 50-55 a year down the road (if he fulfills his potential). Again though, I\'m interested to see what others think, because I think I\'m higher on him than most.

I\'m so high on Kris Russell, I\'m gonna draft his twin brother Ryan, just so he shows up to camp - my hockey pool team camp - full of piss and vinegar and dominates, so much so that Hitch will keep him on \'his\' team!

Murphy will be hard-pressed to see time, especially if he is behind Boumeester and Van Ryn. But I like \"pickles\". Rivet will teach this youngster how to defend and score...
