Exactly my point, his fire and drive were what placed him squarely among the best all-time. Again, I don\'t dispute that Getzlaf may be a rising superstar. I just believe the Messier comparison to be premature, because Messier\'s greatest strengths were not stylistic, but rather his aggressiveness and drive to win.

I don\'t see the Messier comparisons.. Getzlaf as a skater and player reminds me of Thornton, but they have a glaring difference (Thornton is a pure playmaker while Getzlaf is more of a finisher). Both use their size and skating well to protect the puck and slow the game down.
