Because Malkin and AP is a high price to pay. AP is just coming into his own. The age difference is close enough that unless you feel Malkin will not recover from his injury, i would take him over tavares.

I also just saw that it is a limit of 3 seasons per player; that could make a huge difference in how to view the trade.

Given that there's only 6 teams, the 1st round pick would likely be pretty decent. You could definitely use the help on D too. Tavares is a keeper and likely won't stay on the Island forever so there's some long-term value. My opinion on Malkin is that as much as I admit that he is overpowering when he is healthy, I'm just not convinced that he's going to come back healthy in the fall. There are some big question marks there. Depending on how far out of 1st you are right now, I'd likely pull the trigger. If Malkin comes back healthy though, you lose the deal. Big if.

Step away from this trade. If you want to trade Malkin to go all the way this season, you need to target someone more proven than Tavares. Plus, you're giving Pietrangelo who's a stud.

2 more, we started the pool this year. For Pietrangelo I just do not know who else to offer... McBain is only 0.8M so I'd like to keep him. Malkin is 8.7M Pietrangelo 3.2M Tavares 3.8M Kaberle 4.3M. I do not really need Kaberle but I can't really offer Malkin for Tavares and a first round pick only no? The first round would give me Grabner for Backes and without it I'd need to replace Backes with either Spezza (7M) or Sergei Kostityn or Franzen.

Would Malkin vs Tavares + a first round pick be better than the original trade because I've got a lot of injuries that might prevent me from winning this year and he's the only one interested in Malkin. I could be able to get Staal + a first rounder from him but Staal (Eric) is 8M...
