So, Kolzig must be nearing the end of his hockey career, correct? I understand Varlamov is probably their goaltender of the future, but what about Brent Johnson? Will he get alot of action over the next few seasons, with Kolzig winding down and Varlamov not making the scene as of yet?

No, don\'t trust Johnson. He\'ll never be a fantasy asset.
Bugg and I differ in this opinion, but I really think Varlamov is a good seven years away. His style is similar to Hasek\'s - very unorthodox - and Hasek was a nobody until his late 20s. Bugg thinks Varlamov is ready in about two years. I think Neuvirth is ready in about three years, and I think Bugg is thinking the same thing there...but he really believes Varlamov is ahead of Neuvirth

Varlamov needs to get out of Russia... Yaroslavl is no place for a hybrid goalie like that to improve his technique. If he came to North America and trained with a top coach, I\'d lean toward Bugg\'s opinion. Or Finland, or anywhere else. But if he stays in Russia, I think Dobber\'s probably closer to the mark at seven. IMHO, of course.
I\'m actually quite impressed with Neuvirth\'s progress. He\'s not there yet, but I think Olie has another 3 seasons in him (man is he underrated...), and that may be just enough time for the MN to be ready for his shot. Of course, if the Caps have really pulled things together by then, we may see them pick up a #1 via free agency (post-Kolzig). That would certainly require a different mentality though.

Kolzig will be around for at least 2 or 3 more seasons, he is very healthy and still has quite a bit of stamina (despite being 37 years old). He is not a Hasek (injury prone) and not yet a Belfour (declining play), so why worry? He\'s got a few years left at LEAST. Brent Johnson is good enough to start 20 games a season, so that Kolzig isn\'t dead by the end of each season too...
I think that the caps have plenty of time for their goaltending prospects to develop... I also would not rely on Johnson ever again. He was ok back in the day when he started for St. Louis, but I don\'t think he\'ll ever be anything more than a good backup.
