Ok so some of you reading this may notice that I am the same guy that scored Sedin in a limited keeper league just the other day and now I did another upgrading trade or at least I hope it was.

I traded Stastny and Anderson (who i was sorely tempted to drop) for Datsyuk. I know Stastny has quite a career ahead of him but I don't know if Duchene being around may be hindering his time. Dats is a legitimate 95-100 pts player who has a couple years at least. The trade went through but we are waiting for the 2 days grace period.

I'm thinking of trading Dats up for a guy like Malkin or Backstrom once the deal is done. Good idea?

Seeing as you're not planning on keeping Kovalchuk (I would personally as he's turning it on and this year is only an abberation on his carreer...) you could trade him+Dats for Malkin+ draft pick....that could work...

If it doesn't I would strongly consider keeping Kovalchuk over the aging (yet great) St Louis. I was offered St Louis for my Kovalchuk straight up this year (just a few weeks ago) and promptly rejected as I think Kovalchuk will match St Louis's for the rest of the year...and next year Kovy should be better...

I think it's a great trade for you, and if you can keep making trades to improve your keeper by trading up the ladder, I think it's a great idea to do so. Malkin might be a good player to target right now with his injuries, he's probably at an all-time low in value right now.
