Edmonton Oilers rookie forward Jordan Eberle remains day-to-day with a sprained left ankle and expects to get the green light to return to the lineup sooner than later.
''I think I'm definitely close,'' the Oilers' winger said. ''(The ankle) felt good on the ice today. I don't want to have (the injury) when I come back and just re-injure it, so I think the biggest thing is taking it day to day and just go from there.''
Eberle suffered the injury against Calgary earlier this month when his leg appeared to buckle under him after being hit by Flames forward Ales Kotalik.
The winger also had an emergency appendectomy nearly two weeks ago, something that isn't keeping him out of the lineup longer than the ankle issue is.
''It's funny; I've never been injured until (now) when I kind of got everything,'' Eberle said. ''I just woke up in the morning and my stomach was killing me. I came to the rink, they checked it out, and said I needed to go to the hospital.
''They kind of poked around and said I had appendicitis and had to get it removed right away. They get it out and I'm pretty much back to normal, so a pretty quick rehab.''
Eberle has emerged as one of several bright spots on the Oilers' team this season, posting 23 points in 37 games before his initial setback sidelined him.
