Default Why are there so many injuries to key players this year?

Is it because they are targeted ?
Or because they are on the ice more.

Your best guess.

its because they play ON ICE. easier to fall and defently a hard surface.

but in all seriousness it happens like this every year. maybe this is slightly worse but we were all saying this at the start of last season also. huge injuries that yr.

I was actually thinking some previous seasons have been worse for star players missing significant time due to injury.

One of the things that stands out this year though [that contributes to this feeling IMHO] is the number of star players that are healthy, but sucking as if they were hurt...Kovalchuk is a case in point, but there are others that had higher expectations...Malkin, AO, Backstrom, Chara, Gonchar, Keith, Campbell...anything in OTT...the entire first line in SJ.

Outwit, overcome, adapt...or simply curse profusely.

I for one have 6 star players that are injured so far.
Vanek might join this list.

players come in the league much younger now. they come from the juniors where the season is much shorter to the gruel of a longer schedule, more travel, higher intensity games and another possible 20 or so playoff games (if you make it to the final.) before the salary cap, players would enter the league at an older age so they were more physically mature to handle the intensity of the game. since the younger guys are not as physically mature coming into the league these days i can see this being a problem down the road that young guys entering the league now will be old and tired by the time they are 30 if they play a physical game. hossa went to 3 stanly cups. that's almost 100 games a year for three years in a row. no wonder his body is falling apart. dastyuk went to two finals in a row and he's never been able to stay healthy since.
just chalk it up to lack of physical maturity due to youth and the long grueling seasons these young guys have to adapt to.

My thoughts exactly, every year there are usually players that just hit a wall but this year it seems like there are a lot more who are much higher profile players.
