Yeah, I would take this offer and look to fill up the roster spots somehow. AO is too good to pass up on.

I'll try to sum it up in a way that makes you feel a lot better....

Your team can have 2 situations (not an exact science but just follow along):

1) A team with a lack of top players (very difficult problem to fix)

2) A team with a top players but a lack of depth (much easier problem to fix as lower scorers are more abundant)

Your team takes a step from situation 1 to situation 2 by completing this trade. It's much easier to fill the depth holes you create. You need to acquire the top talent. A bit of attention at the draft table or a shrewd buy-low trade and your depth is much improved.

Sorry if my explanation is clunky, I'm really tired right now. Your team does have top players already but it adds another one via this trade.

Good deal on your part. I like Edler becoming more fantasy relevant than Carlson mainly due to his situation in Vancouver. IOW, he doesn't have to worry about passing over a Mike Green on the #1 pp unit.

Oh 'ya you got OV too.

This is a good breakdown/reminder. Tired/clunky or not, a solid explanation here and a good rule for anyone to remember.

Thanks for all the help guys, owner is still pondering it. Another scoreless game for OV and he'll do it. Problem is that now I'm starting to get cold feet about the deal.....Talk me back up the mountain boys, Washington's well isn't going dry is it???

I would still learn towards making the deal but I am not a fan of ditching both young D guys. Counter with:

Ovechkin and Edler

for

Staal, Ryan, Filatov, Ellis and a 2nd

Do the deal as is. I'm of the same philosophy ericdaoust.

You can't win without the big guns.

And Ovechkin's asking price will never be lower than it is right now.
