Sorry for slacking on this lately. I have been busy with Christmas' and shopping and seeing old friends.

On This Day in Hockey History - December 23rd

1943
WEIRD EVENT - Red Wings beat the Rangers 5-3. In the final period N.Y. goalie Ken McAuley was injured and had to leave the game. With no backup on the bench, the Rangers used 17-year-old Harry Lumley, who had played goal for Detroit the night before.

COACHING STAT - Winnipeg Jets beat the Colorado Rockies 5-4 to end their 30 game winless streak (0-23-7). During the streak the Jets went thru three coaches (Tommy McVie, Bill Sutherland, and Mike Smith). Doug Smail led the scoring with a goal and two assists
That's a slew of coaches.

1983

1999
MILESTONE/STAT - Carolina Hurricanes' Paul Coffey picked up an assist to become the first defenseman (and 8th player) in NHL history to score 1,500 career points. The milestone came in a 4-3 loss at Ottawa.
I was surprised to see Coffey play in 1999. I thought he had retired before then. What a beauty

2000
MILESTONE/NHL RECORD - Nashville's David Legwand scored the first overtime penalty shot goal in NHL history as the Predators won 3-2 against the Rangers at New York.
We need more OT Penalty shots awarded.

MILESTONE - Washington's Ron Wilson picked up his 250th career coaching victory, when the Capitals beat the Florida Panthers 5-3.
10 years later, Ron Wilson now has 253 coaching wins j/k
