Studs of the Night
Quickstop - Quick turned away a whomping 51 shots (including 26 in the 2nd period) for the shutout against Detroit. In addition, after going pointless in 10 games, Doughty finally put some points on the board with 3 assists. Interestingly enough, last time he got points (November 17th) he had registered 3 assists as well. Should we expect another 10 game slump? Oh and the Kings have now won 4 straight against the Wings. More Buffy love - ATL almost made it as a Dud blowing a 3 goal lead, but with Little's overtime goal and the mighty Byfuglien leading the way (32 points in 31 games), the Thrashers have won their 10th in the last 12. Note that Byfuglien's point total in 82 games with Chicago last season was 34. His career high? 36 back in the 07-08 season. Quite the contrast from his current pace. LindBack-2B - Make that two consecutive shut outs for Lindback. Mind you they were against FLA and NYI, but it's still rather impressive. I personally love this as a Preds fan, but hate it as a Rinne owner in two leagues. Lindback has been stellar in his last 5 games going 4-0-1 and posting a .959SV% as well as only 7GA. Fun fact : the Predators haven't allowed a power-play goal in 12 of their last 13 games. Honourable mention: Fleischmann's 3 points (1G and 2A) in the last 2 and a half minutes of the game pushed the Avs over the Hawks in the 7-5 game. Duds of the Night Spezz-away - Well well, Mr. Spezza gave up the puck at the most crucial point of the game and it backfired on him and the Sens as it cost the game. After coming back from a 3-0 deficit and pushing the game into overtime, it's sad to see it end like that... At least Alfredsson ended his 10 game pointless streak. See Alfy started the season with 17 points in 21 games but suddenly went ice cold. Then again, it is the Sens we're talking about Chased out - From Quick and Lindback stellar shutouts to Turco (4G on 10 shots) and S. Mason (2G on 4 shots). Both teams would go on to lose their games but it's easy to see that Garon and Crawford are both outplaying their starters. If they aren't picked up in your league yet, what are you waiting for? NYI Freefall - It didn't take long for the Isle's to get back into their losing routine. Since they ended their 14 game losing streak by blanking New Jersey (on Nov 26th), they have yet to win another game. With another loss tonight they are now 0-6 (and 1-17-3 in their last 21). To make things worse, they've also allowed 26 goals during that span (and 15 in their last 3). Terrible! Feel free to add any other Studs and/or duds below!
