Default Wednesday December 8th - Studs and Duds

Studs of the Night

Klein & Lindback stand tall - Great game by Lindback posting a .946SV% against Detroit. He's been a very solid back up tender this season, although he's yet to post anything under 2GA. As for Klein well, he pretty much saved a sure bet goal (and possibly the game) by sweeping the rolling puck off the goal line in the 2nd period.

Rookie Sharks Rally up - SJS came back from a 4-1 third period deficit and swam away with a sweet shootout victory led by Logan Couture. Couture scored his 6th goal (7 points) in the last 5 and rookie defenseman Demers put up a decent fantasy night: 1G, 1A, +2, 2 PIM, 2 SOG.

Mighty Pens -
Kunitz - 3 assists tonight gives him 7 points in his last 4gp.
Letestu - 2 goals and his third game winner of the season ranks second amoung rookies.
Tyler Kennedy - 2 assists gives him 4 points in his last 5gp and one assist shy from a career 50.
Crosby - 2 goals tonight extends his streak to 35 points in 17gp. Awesome quote from NHL.com: "Fleury hasn't lost in regulation since Nov. 2 in Anaheim. Ironically, that's also where Crosby's streak began."

Honourable mention: With an assist tonight, Carter notched his 300th career point.

Duds of the Night
no particular order

Lehtonen's aches - Is this the start of the inevitable?
With Lehtonen out, Raycroft played between the pipes. Raycroft's 3W's this season were stellar performances (allowing only 2GA), can't say the same about his losses giving up 9GA in two games played. This quote by forum member jsender made me chuckle: "Lehtonen out with an injury the same day Lehtinen retires.. Coincidence.. I think not. They are one of the same. Therefore. Lehtonen actually retired today."

Bittersweet Maple - Disappointing night for sure, down 4-0 before the 2nd was even over. Not only that but when it seemed like they were destined to comeback, they blew it again. It was almost like watching them lose twice in the same game! Or maybe that's just me... Also the fights felt forced and didn't help the team much. I'll give them some credit, it's been a tough stretch (and still going) of games having played Boston, Washington and Pittsburgh tonight as well as facing Philadelphia tomorrow and Montreal Saturday. Ouch.

Write in - Post another dud of the evening below!

DUD to Ryan Getzlaf - his attempt on VAN's empty net led to the tying goal for Kessler after the icing. i know, not huge but you needed a 3rd!

Dud's Philadelphia Flyers for blowing a 3 goal lead in the 3rd period thus still not beating san jose in 10 years.

Dud to Patrick Marleau. Another night where SJ puts up 4 or 5 goals and he gets a goose egg with a minus 1.
