Former first round pick, perrenial sub-30 point defenseman Brent Burns is currently on pace for 49 points. That would be a career best for him, with his previous high being 43 points in 07/08. That was also the last time he played 60 or more games in a season. Is this a situation where a guy is starting to come into his own, or is he bound to fall back to down to his 30 point ways, probably do to another injury?
More specific to my own league, which is in my sig, I'm in a situation where I'm looking to move one of my defensemen for a buy low wing candidate. Should I be pushing Burns, or is he going to be a 40+ point defender from here on out?

I think his time has finally arrived. If he could of stayed healthy he would of arrived a few years ago. If he stays healthy(big if) I believe he can be a 40pt defenseman.
I also don't think his trade value is enough where you would get something of equal value in return. People who know better are probably hesitant of his injured past and people who don't quite know who he is would just attribute this start as a fluke |

He was pretty dominant in that 43 point season, I believe he was even voted best defenseman on a stacked Team Canada that year. Its hard to say if hes completely snapped out of his funk though. Injury played a role to be sure- but he just hasn't looked the same. This year might be a completely different story though- I haven't seen the Wild play at all but his numbers are indicative of a return to form. His potential is certainly elite and hes still young enough that writing him off would be a mistake. This could be his year.
Go figure that I dropped him right before the draft! S:
