I'm on the fence on what to do with my team right now. I need goaltending, and can trade for miller this year. If i trade for him, I would be keeping him for next year. Where does everyone rank him compared to Lundquvist, Luongo, Brodoure, Flurey, Khabby, Kipper?
Cheers.

not sure why you included khabi in that list he's brutal compared to the rest but i'd say he's as good as lundqvist just several years older. I'd say yes he's a top 5 goalie for the next 3+ years with assurance.

I'd put Miller just after Luongo and Brodeur. What's really holding him back is his team not being a stud team, and probably never will be. He's definitely comparable to Kipper/Lundqvist in my opinion, and a bit above Fleury till MAF raises his GAA and SV%. Oh, and he's not "several years older" then Lundy, he's just 2 years older. Last two years, he's proved he deserves to be considered top 3, though I think he's starting to feel the effects of being overworked this last couple weeks (and the Olympics aren't gonna help).

Yes. Behind Brodeur, Luongo, Lundqvist. Comparable to Kipper.

Most will say he is a top 3 goalie based on this year - but if you look at career numbers, consistancy and teams, theres a few I'd take before him, heres my breakdown:
#1 & 2: Brodeur & Luongo Do I really need to explain this? Give Luongo the edge because of age, but these are the top 2 in the NHL, not many will disagree. #3: Lundquist I have no idea how this guy gets so little love. 28 years old (in a few weeks), he has never had a GAA above 2.43 (insane) or a SV% below .912, and its not like he plays on an elite team - the Rangers are average. #4 & 5: Nabokov/Kipper Both these guys are elite goalies on teams that over the past few years have been pretty consistantly good. Both have excellent career numbers, and are usually in the top 5 in every goalie catergory. I'm not a fan of either, but you can't argue with numbers and the numbers support them. Both will hit 35 this year, but for the next 3 years they should still have the value, its usually the 30's when goalies play at their best. #6: Miller I'm going to place Miller here, but honestly if it wasn't for this year he could be behind the likes of Vokoun (I'll explain on the next part) of MAF (upside). Miller's a great goalie no doubt, but the last 2 seasons are really the only above average seasons he's had. For example, before this year, his best season was WORSE than Lundquists worst season - see where I'm going with this? Miller is Buffalo. They have overacheived in my opinion this year, and although I'd like Miller to keep up this pace, I think that his numbers will come back down to earth next year (2.60ish GAA and .912 ish SV%... still good but not elite) # 7: Vokoun Vokoun is another great goalie that doesn't get nearly the love he should. His career stats are better than Miller's and he's not significantly older (He's 33). Vokoun has played on Nashville and Florida for 561/562 games in his NHL career yet his SV% hasn't been below .919 since 2004. Another example of a great goalie on an awful team, and it can easily be argued tha he be ahead of Miller, but I'll give Miller the slight nod because of age. #8: MAF Fleury has all the potential in the world. He showed us flashes of brilliance in the playoffs last year - hell he's pretty much the reason the Pens have a cup. But until that translates into the regular season he's only a slightly above average fantasy goalie with a TON of upside. |

Goalies are so hard to predict, but I would put him top 5-7 with certainty.
Brodeur, Luongo, Lundqvist, Nabakov - tier #1 Miller, kipper, Fleury tier #1B There will always be goalies that jump in and out of top performance year in year out... see Mason, Backstrom last year, Bryzgalov, Quick, Anderson this year...

With only 3 keepers per team, some pretty good goalies will be in the draft next year. For example you can't keep Vokoun, and I'd feel alot more comfortable with Hossa/Parise/Getz + Vokoun than Getz/Parise/Miller + some mid tier RW |

Whoa, ya, with only three keepers (which I should have noticed), I don't think you'd be keeping either Vokoun or Miller, as much as I like them. You can get a good goalie early in the draft, and I'd save that spot for Hossa as well.
