Hey I was looking at your predictions for The Playoffs and I see you picked Minnesota to beat Anaheim, Detroit to oust Calgary, Nasville to defeat SJ and Vancouver to stomp on Dallas...
After you reseed the matchups would be (Detroit vs Minnesota) and (Vancouver vs Nasville) yet you have the Western conference finals being between Nashville and Vancouver? This can not be...I am assuming you pick Nashville over Vancouver but who do u like in the other game? |

Guys - when I make my predictions...and you gotta be smart here - you cannot under any circumstances assume that you will go 8-0 in the first round. I have never done it, and I will never do it. In fact, last year was the first time in nearly 10 years that I went 4-0 in a CONFERENCE! (I called the West, even Edmonton over Detroit).
So as far as re-seeding goes - forget about it. I\'ll assume I go 6-2 or 5-3 in the first round, and that my semi-final predictions will be fairly accurate. It\'s correcting for an error that I know I will make. If you predict each round and account for re-seeding, then as soon as you get one wrong in the first round (which you most assuredly will), you already messed up all your picks for the entire playoffs! Sorry I didn\'t specify my thinking when I did that, but I don\'t re-seed each round and that\'s my reason. B)

I think what Celly is trying to say is that you picked 2 teams who can\'t possibly meet in the conference final - is that right Celly? Probably just a typo.

Ok, does that mean that if you were picking sat 12 players you wouldnt go with just 4 teams for instance? You would pick more of a mix to make sure you have someone later on in the pool?

I would pick four teams - strictly semi-finalists - but if I picked a team to come out of the first round (but is not a semi-finalist) I would not be against choosing that team\'s best player if I feel he will make the top 20 in scoring.
Example - the Common Fan pool where you pick 20 guys...I might take 18 players from Buffalo, New Jersey, Nashville, Vancouver...PLUS I may take Crosby and Malkin. Because I picked them to come out of the first round, so they will get 10-15 points right there, even though they don\'t make the semis. PS - this is only an example - I actually picked the Pens to go to the final.

Well I guess great minds think alike dobber :cheer:
Despite the fact that I picked Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Vancouver, and San Jose to be the final four for the dobber playoff pool, I have Scott Niedermayer, Teemu Selanne, Marion Hossa, Jagr, and a few other guys (since I have Anaheim and NYR winning in the first round. I\'m not too confident about NYR over ATL so I have Hossa as well). Even if all of these guys get knocked out in the second round, they\'ll still play probably 10-12 games at least. With these guys, that equals 10-12 points each. Outside of Crosby, Malkin, Gonchar, and Whitney, there aren\'t many other penguins that are likely to get 10-12 points in the entire playoffs, so I\'ll take the gamble that if pitt loses in the first round (which I hope they don\'t), I\'ll still have a few guys in it so [hopefully] I don\'t place in the bottom 5%. Post edited by: lanky522, at: 2007/04/11 12:50
