Default Impact of Kovi Trade on Enstrom

Every trade rumor I have seen has a d-man going to ATL. Guys like Phaneuf, JJ, Barker, etc. How will one of these guys affect Enstroms point totals? Will it have a bigger impact on Bogo or Enstrom?

I think it's obvious that Kovalchuk's departure will give Enstrom fewer opportunities to cash in on plays created by Ilya himself. They won't have a player of Kovalchuk's calibre coming back in a trade.

Outside of that, it's really hard to say how his PP time, etc is affected, depending on who comes back in return.

I'm a strong believer of Enstrom, and that none of those D-men will affect his role on the PP. Enstrom is just too good. I think any of those D-men or Bogosian will probably be given Kovalchuk's spot on the PP, which is the opposite point from Enstrom.

How will this affect Enstrom's point totals? Having Phaneuf or Bogosian blasting your passes from the opposite point is a pretty good thing too. He's young and still improving his game, but I'd say he still has 50+ point potential without Kovalchuk.

I don't think it will affect Enstrom so much.

Unless Kovalchuk signs with the team they trade him to, the return will not be that great. Probably a bunch of prospects.

I can see Chicago trading for him without a extension and trade away players because they need the cap space but Barker will not have an impact on Enstrom. Remember Kubina is gone after this season as well.

I think it is ridiculous to say Ilya leaving town won't affect Enstrom's numbers. If Ovechkin, Crosby or Malkin left their respective teams each individual would be affected - especially those who play with them.

Ilya leaving and whoever comes back will influence Enstrom's numbers. Either way, it is not going to influence Enstrom's upside but it WILL influence his chances of reaching that upside.
When an offensive player of Ilya's calibre leaves it is undoubtably going to affect his (former) teammates' numbers. For guys on the outside looking in - like Little - it will affect them positively.

Forget upside, he will still be their best offensive defenseman. It is not as if Atlanta will not be able to score anymore without Kovalchuk. They will have a better all round team if they make a good trade.

Definitely still a #1 unit PP guy. As for Pt totals its hard to say how he will be affected. It really depends on the player himself. Does he step up and become better. Time will tell whether or not he is supporting cast or a leader/top player on your team. Situations like this often give the answer.

Prime example - (Not to say Enstrom is or will be as good as....) Brian Leetch. But For many years he was the best player on the Rangers.

I also like to look at the example of SGonchar in his Wahington years. He had some of his best totals in his career. Yes Jagr was with him for a few years but he was not the player he was in Pittsburgh and for a couple of seasons in NY. And in 2000-01 he didnt have him at all. His totals with Crosby and Crosby and Malkin were eerily similar.
