Something that might help out that goes along the lines of a limited keeper....

Based on the results of the year, teams keep a different number of players.

Eg.

Finish 13-16, keep all
Finish 9-12, keep 75%
Finish 5-8, keep 50%
Finish 1-4, keep 25%

It could really help to shake up the league from year to year. Someone who has such a stacked roster as yourself would be forced to consolodate your talent and folks that at the bottom of the league would be encouraged to build a long term team using young players.

It would also add a bit more stratagy to the game.

Your idea of keepers based on position does not help. The bottom place teams can keep their rosters, but they are in last place for a reason, and their rosters are not strong. Sure top teams will lose good players, but than you get everyone not going to win trying to come last to keep as many good players as they can.

I will throw out what our league does. We have a keeper where the # of players you want to keep is somewhat up to you. Each year, you take the amount of points the top team got, and you can keep 1/2 of it. Now if you look at my team, I can usually protect 8-9 players, while other teams can fit in 13-14 players. That means that if people kept their draft picks, the top teams lose 2/3 of their team. The lower teams now have access to everything but the contenders top 1/3 of the team in the draft. Meanwhile the teams with super talent, have to draft 4-5 players at the very end of the draft to fill up their rosters.

So to give a concrete example last year:

Malkin, Ribiero, Kesler, Ott, Umberger
Gionta, Langenbrunner, Hudler, Doan, Brown
Frolov, Demitra, Ovechkin, Nash, Smythe
Boyle, Streit, Chara, Rafalski, Campbell, Kubina
Backstrom, Nabokov, Luongo

My team placed 2nd. After we looked at the top teams, points, I was able to protect:
Ovy, Nash, Malkin, Nabokov, Backstrom, Luongo, Boyle, Streit.

I put Ribiero, Chara, Rafalski, Campbell, Doan, Brown, Langenbrunner, Gionta etc... back into the draft. This year, I am in 8th of 12 teams.

Thanks for the compliment TML. Unfortunately, our league has a sponsor/application system, and only looks at one team a year which has to be sponsored (each Gm ever only gets 1) by a GM in our league. Sorry.
