I have a solid unit of centers and a weak unit of D. Malkin, Toews, Kopitar, and Boyes are my centers.

I\'d like Bergeron to be trade bait for a defenseman. What kind of player could I get and how far could I push the limit on value? Kaberle? Rafalski?

This is a tough question to answer without knowing the dynamics of the pool. First question is keep vs 1 year. I assume keeper since Bergeron would have little value in a 1yr at this point.

So, value is determined on need. A team in the rebuilding mode isgoing to put a higher value on Bergeron than a team who is competing. Of course, if you are rebuilding mode the answer is simple, depending on your rules: hold onto him. If not, your best bet is to go after a top defenseman on a bottom dwelling rebuilding team, keeping in mind that an older defenseman like Lidstrom is of less value in a keeper league than a young gun like Whitney to a rebuilding team. Lidstrom might pull a Blake by the time the team is competitive, and I would sell it that way. There are several over the hill defensemen, specifically Lidstrom and Schneider, who would be worth a look.

I personnally put more vale on a 55+ point defenceman than a 75 point forward, but it really depends on the scoring system you use.

Thanks Nblobstr! My league is a bit different. Its a keeper league after the 10th round of drafting. You can keep three players. I already know I\'m keeping Toews and Kane. and most likely Beauchemin.

I was just curious about what potential points range Bergeron could get for a Defenseman.

I think he is worth about a 45 pointer these days - too many good young centres and guys coming up and in. Sounds like Bergeron would not be a keeper in your league so I might even devalue that to about 40 points.

Actually regardless of my circumstances, if I was in your league I likely would stay away from a deal for Bergeron - sounds hard but think it\'s the truth.

Shoeless is right, Bergeron alone won\'t get you much over a 45 point D-man.
