Default Goligoski vs Letang

I know it's just one game but the coach is already favouring Goligoski to play the PP with Gonchar. He did say however that both will get the opportunity to play.
I don't get to see Penguins games much other than highlights.
Who do you think will win this job over the course of the season?
And who do you think is more valuable?

I think you'll see a pretty even split over the course of the season, with both sharing time on the top PP with Gonchar.
Last night Goligoski had 1:00 more PP time, he was on the top unit for the initial PP in the 1st period (1st unit was on the ice almost the entire 2:00 until Malkin scored) and Letang was on the top PP in the third (1st unit stayed on a little over a minute).
Think of the two of them as a goalie platoon. If you drafted Hiller in a pool, you'd protect yourself by also drafting Giguere later.
Goligoski looked very good on the PP last night, but as another member (and pens follower) noted recently, Letang is a right-handed shot and that's something the Pens will need on the point.
As far as who's more valuable, Goligoski definitely has homerun potential. And Letang will likely anchor the Pens blue line for the next decade (if re-signed) in all situations; EV, PK, PP.
In points-only, I'd say Goligoski is more valuable, but in roto or multi-cat, I'd say they're a wash.

My guess is this season they try them both out all season in all different scenarios. Just like slufoot said.

They will want to know if they should resign Gonchar or not.

And I'm guessing they won't sign him. And if they do it would be a 1 year contract.

Unless of course they feel that either Letang or Goligoski aren't up to par.

Imagine in 3 years if Goligoski and Letang are both 50+ Dmen and they have Malkin and Crosby... Scary

I watched both defensmen extensively last season, and let me tell you they both play a very different style. Letang has great speed and likes bringing the puck up with his good pace and stick-handling. Letang is a better two-way defensman, good on transitions and better of the two-defensively. Goligoski is by far the superior option on the PP...he has great instincts, good passing skills, and works well with his other pointman (whether it's Gonchar or Malkin). If you're looking for who is going to spend more time on the top PP, I would go for Goligoski...Letang will likely play more even-strength situations.
