I would offer EJ and Paetsch and play the young and their potential card. See what he says or comes back with.

You\'re giving too much.. especially if it\'s Carle & E. Johnson.
But because you can only keep 4 Ds... Then give him Markov & C. Murphy. It\'s a good offer.. Murphy is really hot right now. So your top 4 should be: Whitney Gonchar Carle E. Johnson

We keep a total of 10 each year [no restrictions]. I could keep all my D if I wanted to, but I have too many decent forwards and some good goalies so I anticipate I will only keep 3-4 D at the end of the year.
Here\'s a couple of questions. Which is the better fantasy defenseman, M. Carle or A. Markov? I think B. Campbell is better than both of these, agree...disagree? I know I\'m giving up a bunch, but I can impossibly keep all these players. The guy I\'m dealing with is a first time fantasy poolie and I run the pool. This would be the first trade of the whole year and I\'m not going to screw him over. I\'m thinking of making this a three player deal where he takes M. Havlat off my hands [in order to maybe keep him for next year]. Potential deal...I give M. Carle, E. Johnson, and M. Havlat. I get Gonchar, T. Poti, and J.P. Dumont. He gets 2 young solid D keepers and a high-end bandaid boy. I get arguably the second best D in the league in Gonchar, a depth D and a depth forward [neither of which I will keep next season anyway].

Markov vs Campbell is a tough call - but Carle is definitely better than both of them from a future perspective in my opinion. I am a Johnson owner in my keeper, and I wouldn\'t move him for Gonchar. Carle, maybe. But to give up both of then, you are seriously oldening up on D.
Getting rid of Havlat would be a positive thing, though. |

Absolutely agree with Repenttokyo.
Carle has higher potential then Markov & Campbell. Hobey Baker Award Winner, 42pts for his second season and just 23 years old on a superb team. With E.Johnson, Whitney & Carle.. you have 3 young studs that will give many years of fantasy points.

Just wanted to say thanks to all who gave input. Our talks stalled at the table. He was only interested if the offer was M. Carle and E. Johnson for S. Gonchar. I have a really good core of D that I\'ll sit on for a while.

I think you are fine with you have.
Carle & E. Johnson is too much to pay for Gonchar. Sometimes it\'s best not to trade and be patient.

Well said Shoeless!
I know it is human nature to offer as little as possible to attempt to get what you want...but it takes value to get value...
