I prefer Gagner.
I'm confused though. Do you start 2LW, 2RW, 2C and then 6 forwards of any position? If this is the case then keep Gagner. If you only start 2LW, 2RW, and 2C then this trade becomes closer because of the value of wingers.

Gagner definitely has the better ceiling which is what you want.

yeah we start 2C,2RW,2LW and 6 of any forward position (they can all be centers or all left wing etc.) I'm just really strapped for cash so I'm trying to move JBO. The guy offered me Suter for him straight up, but I wanted to swap ELC's (Wheeler and Gagner) if that meant I got the better end of the deal.
We use the player's yearly salary rather than cap hit.

With 6 free forward positions there's not really much benefit to wingers beyond your top 2 or 3 so you can freely load up on centers. Gagner is better than Wheeler so he is the one to covet.
Now if we were talking elite players I'd say covet the winger, but looking at 2nd or 3rd tier options you take the top upside.

Extended stats enhance Wheeler. I wonder though that his upside is 60 points. He's a third line winger on a very good team. Hard guy to play against. Given the right opportunity on a team that wasn't as deep as the Bruins, one might wonder for more. He's a winger, which means he doesn't require quite as many points to be valuable.
Gagner is a top 6 forward, if he is to have success in the NHL. Other than Patrick Kane, I wonder that he's the second highest scoring draft pick from the class of 2007. Thus, we jump the gun by wondering if he's washed up. At this point, in a pool with extended stats, I would probably take Wheeler. In a pool that was straight points, I lean towards Gagner. Personal choice becomes a significant factor in this comparison.

Gagner is a number 1 center, in two years hell be centering a top line somewhere, while Wheeler will still be fitting his Power-forward-grinding esque 2nd line-3rd line style. Gagner=90 point ceiling
Wheeler= i wonder if he can even hit 65. |

Gagner - because of opportunity now and in the future he'll get more offensive responsibility as well.
Cheers.
