Yes, I agree he has a higher ceiling than 30 goals. I was trying to approximate his average seasons. 20 may be a little low, but, if he regularly scores 35+ he\'ll threaten to outpoint of the big three. I love Backstrom, don\'t get me wrong, but, that\'s really optimistic.

Well, it all depends upon what you think the upside of each of these fine young players is. The other GM has to look at the offer with interest. You\'re playing ball.

Start your thought by considering what their upside is for the next five years.

Is that what you have in mind? I\'m wondering about something like that. Mind you, Toews better have a season inwhich he does it, or everyone will be revising these optimistic numbers, and not up!

I figure the low usable centre is 60 points. He can often be had on a waiver or for very, very little. When making a deal like you are, I consider the low usable, and count on being able to achieve that economically, and outside the parameters of the investment in the bigger deal.

Basically Backstrom and the low usable are about the same as owning a pair of Toews by my projections.

Letang is another kettle of fish. What is this kid? Is he a 35 point guy, 40 point guy, 50 point guy, 60 point guy? I\'ll give him a line like this.

Backstrom/low pick a year or two down the road. (many years ago I started asking for nice picks 4 years down the road. Now, every year I have a boatload of picks every year - consistently about 25% of the picks in a 12 man league)
