I\'m contemplating giving my Ryan Miller for his Carey Price and Igor Makarov. My other goalie is Bryzgalov. It\'s a FHL sim league so it puts player ratings together and sims games. Essentially, Bryzgalov will be the #1 guy for the time being getting 65-70 of the 82 games per season. Backups are not overly valuable under this format but they make good trade chips.
I know Miller is better than Price at the moment, but Price has a better ceiling. And waiting for Price to hit his peak is not a big deal because, like I said, Bryzgalov will get the majority of the starts. Is Makarov for real? Is he enough to cover the difference between Price and Miller? Thanks to all who help me out!

It\'s hard to give a good answer without understanding the context of your league.
[ul][li]How do goaltenders earn points?[/li] [li]How are player ratings defined? (I don\'t know jack about sim leagues)[/li] [/ul] If you\'re just looking at wins, Price will be even with Miller as early as next year. Having Jacques Martin as the coach in Montreal does Price a massive favour, both in terms of improving his numbers and his confidence. Makarov just seems to be a swing-for-the-fences icing on the cake here. He could be massive or he could disappear. I\'m gambling on massive. Are you considering offering this, or is this deal on the table? Knowing the particulars of your league may change how it looks, but I\'d suggest you do the deal then book an appointment with the best cosmetic surgeon you can find - you\'re going to want to change how you look \'cause you\'ll have the long arm of the law chasing you down for grand larceny. |

OK I\'ll try to explain things here.
It\'s a sim league, there\'s no points. It resembles H2H leagues a bit, in a sense that your team plays another team in a fake \"real NHL game\". Essentially, I\'m not looking for points, but instead for the best balance of team to win games. Grinders and PK specialists work their way onto teams in these leagues, but that\'s not important here. Basically, best team = best chance to win, just like any other hockey pool. So the discussion applies here too. Price vs Miller: goalie ratings are determined by the big picture - wins, shutouts and save % for the most part. With that in mind, there is a big gap between Price and Miller when comparing the 08-09 season (which is used for the next set of ratings - coming soon). But I also have Bryzgalov as a goalie, so letting Price sit isn\'t a big deal. Bryz gets 60-70 starts while Price gets the rest. So there you have it. I\'m hoping for a bounce back from Price. Not sure about Makarov though, I\'m still waiting to make this offer but about 70% sure I\'ll be doing it. Thanks again guys.

I\'d take Price over Miller any day. Miller has never impressed me though. I agree with your thought that Price has the much higher ceiling. Buffalo plays a fully offensive style of game while under Martin, Montreal should see a much tighter defensive game. Go with Price and take Makarov as a sweet sweet bonus!

So Price\'s rating will be set based on his stats from last year?
And then this year\'s real performance will set his rating for next year? That\'s gold, man. Stash Price as your backup and pencil in the championship for 2010/2011... STEAL STEAL STEAL. If this deal isn\'t already on the table, be prepared for the other manager to ask for a buttload more than Miller... |

I\'m not sure whether you just re-affirmed something I already knew or not. Many rate Miller higher than Price. I have been the other way around for some time. Miller did clearly join the big boys club, among NHL tenders this year. That Miller is worth more than Price today (in the minds of some), I guess I just hadn\'t moved my head around that yet. I\'m going to take some convincing yet, as I still think that Buffalo\'s middling ways, will prevent Miller from finding the top drawer. Price is still crazy young. Miller, about 30 now, so just in the prime of his career.
Montreal in my mind, will be middling or solidify themselves as a top 10 contender this coming season. I think Price has a chance to be a Hall-of-Famer. So, Price+Makarov for Miller. Yeah. That\'s fair. Miller+Makarov for Price would be fair too. I\'m not too sold on Makarov being a piece of value in Fantasy.

In the process of doing a round of karma. The guy took the trade. I even have something in mind to upgrade Bryzgalov into something better for rather cheap, but that\'s for another thread.
