Default Howard, Neuvirth or Theodore next season??

I have Theo and the other two are available on waivers. I have a feeling Newvirth will be scooped up soon and I am wondering if I should take him over Theo. I am in contention next year, otherwise it would be a no-brainer for me to grab Nuevy.

Pros as I see them for each (again, looking at next year only):

Theo: has at least a 50/50 shot at reclaiming the number one job, at least to start. As Nabby and Huet are my top two, this may at least give him some trade value. He also has the potential to light it up in his contract year, and Washington will be a powerhouse next year. Of course, he may also start as back up, virtually killing his value.

Neuvirth: A lot of \"if\'s\", but possibly the biggest upside. If Theo is moved, and Varlamov and Neuvirth share the lpad, then I love Neuvirth. However, likely Theo will be the backup and Neuvirth will have to somehow leapfrog over the guy who enseated Theo with an unbelievable P/O run. Varly would have to have the reigns to start, at least. I don\'t want to sit on Neuvirth for a year (contention), so he would have to play in the NHL for me to grab him.

Howard: If not now, then when? Osgood is in his last year, and I am sure that everyone in Det would love it if Howard stepped up and claimed the number one spot. As they are up against the cap, I am sure that Howard will start as a cheap backup next season. Why wouldn\'t they give him every oppourtunity to thrive? Though, the organization hasn\'t really shown him much love for the last couple of years, so maybe he is not the future in net.

At this point, I am likely just going to hold onto Theo and see what happens. Unfortunately, this will likely cost me Howard and Neuvirth.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Default Howard, Neuvirth or Theodore next season??

For next year it\'s Theodore and it\'s not even close. If Washington deals away Theodore, they re-sign Johnson. Neuvirth will most likely play the whole year in Hershey as the starter with spot callups. He\'s a great prospect, but he\'s still a ways away from the NHL, in large part because of the rest of the goalies in Washington.

Howard will most likely be the backup to Osgood next season, since he\'s out of waiver options and can\'t be sent down to the AHL without Detroit risking him to be claimed by another team. Osgood has two years left after this season. I can see Howard playing around 30 games in the NHL next year.

When all is said and done Theodore is still the only one of these three that fits your contending team, since he\'s the only one who has a good chance of being a starter.

That\'s my 2 cents anyway.

BAng on post sentium.

And even if Theo gets moved, it\'s obviously to be the starter on a team that wants him. Of the three, Theo is the clear choice.

Cheers.

You have to stick with Theo for now no matter what, but he may not even get into half the games, depending how Varlamov makes out. Varlamov will get every opportunity for Was next year. If Neuvirth has a good camp, then Theo might become the odd man out. This scenario isn\'t as likely because Was probably needs to keep an experienced Theo around and happy... hence starts for Theo as they ease Varlamov into the starter\'s role.

Howard\'s situation is intruiging, but he\'s too risky a pick too. If your in contention, you have to go with Theo for now. If he becomes an absolute failure, then, hopefully, you\'ll still have a chance to pick up a worthy option on the waiver wire.

Default Howard, Neuvirth or Theodore next season??

I guess I look at Theo and Howard as being in very similar situations, but with one glaring difference - one has a lot of upside and one is on his way down.

At this point, it looks like Theo will be the back up to Varlamov and Howard will back up Osgood. I like Howard\'s chances of stealing the starting job more than I like Theo\'s. Clearly, he is not the future in Washington, so I am sure that Varlamov or Neuvirth will be given every oppourtunity. The only thing that can blow it is a total bed shitting by Varly.

In Detroit, I would assume that Howard is given every oppourtunity to shine, given his cheap contract, Osgood\'s age and declining play (reg, season at least). Neither one of these guys are in my top two, so I am leaning on taking a chance on the guy who could make the bigger splash.

All it would take is for Howard to have a great camp and good start and he may turn into the Wings starting tender.

Tough to lay that one down........

Default Howard, Neuvirth or Theodore next season??

Osgood has repeatedly stated during the playoffs that he will not let the same kind of regular season happen again, so expect a revitalized Ozzie next year, which is why I\'m not counting too much on Howard.

I hear that. He should be motivated.

I thought that he only had one more year remaining on his deal, but if he has two more, than he may not be heading off into the sunset so soon.

If there is any merit to the Varlamov to the KHL rumour, than I may as well grab Neuvirth and sit on him. Should be an interesting off season in Washington.

There is a Varlamov to the KHL rumor? He just came from there and has made it abundantly clear that he wants to play in the NHL and will do what it takes to get there and that he also understands that by no means is he guaranteed a spot as starter next year.

Check out the ramblings....

Haven\'t found anything yet, but it doesn\'t make a lot of sense. Unless, of course, he is motivated by large dollars. He wouldn\'t be the first...
