Default Keeper decisions

Hi all,

I\'m in a keeper league, with a $25 salary cap for 20 players. Can keep 6 forwards, 3 Defensemen and 1 goalie.

Categories: Forwards G, A, PIM, +/-, PP/SH Goals, PP/SH assists
Defense G, A, PIM
Goalies GAA

I will likely keep the following:

O Jokinen, $2.80 final year of contract (can extend for .50/year)
Vanek, $2.50 year 1 of 5
Cammalleri, $1.70 year 1 of 4
Parise, $1.50 year 1 of 3

Boyle, $1.10 final year of contract
Gonchar, $4.60 can be extended $.50/year starting next year
Commodore $.90 can be extended $.50/year starting next year

Brodeur, $1.20 can be extended $.50/year starting next year

My questions
1. Which of the following forwards (max 2) would you keep:
A Kostystsin 0.50, Zubrus 0.20 final year, Marion Hossa $5.00, Datsyuk $4.50, Pyatt $1.00, M Koivu $1.00, Holmstrom $0.10 final year (can extend)

2. Is Gonchar worth $4.60?

3. Is Hamhuis at $1.00 any better than Commodore?

I am leaning towards Kostystsin (I\'m a Habs fan, sorry haha) and Holmstrom to save some dollars and perhaps repurchase a big gun like Hossa and Datsyuk at a contract similar to what I have them for.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Rory

No way I let go of Hossa, he\'ll bring to much towards your team in almost every category.

Also i\'d let Gonchar go, hes good but he\'s getting older and is pretty expensive, not to mention guys like Whitney and Letang ready to take the team over.

And i\'d stick with commodore I guess, Hamhuis has the talent but with Weber and Suter ahead of him, and nashvile\'s great scouts to draft even more top quality defencemen the only way he\'ll become good is if hes traded to a team like Columbus.

For the stat categories you have listed (for d-men) Gonchar is no where near worth $4.60. I would try to trade Gonchar or drop him if I couldn\'t trade him. At that time, I would eat the 40 cents and keep Hossa, as well as try and trade Datsuyk. As for the final two keepers? Depends on who you have for D and out of the forwards you mentioned, probably Koivu or Andrei Kostystsin.

thanks for the input.

Gonchar is a big ? for me. I traded away Weber at the end of last year for Gonchar and Commodore (I was making a last minute push for the money). I\'ve regretted it since.

I really like Hossa, but think I can get him back again this year for a similar contract price and one more eligible year...our draft is a auction style one. Generally guys don\'t go for much more than $5.00 in our pool.

I don\'t think any of the other forwards I mentioned can be repurchased for their current contracts...perhaps Pyatt and Koivu can.

What I didn\'t mention previously is that there has to be 12 F, 6 D, 2 G. There are 20 teams in the league, so it gets pretty thin, especially when you add in a 10 man reserve list per team. We\'re drafting 600 deep.

I understand your dilemma over Gonchar - I think he is going to put up sick numbers over the next couple of years.

thanks guys...I will likely keep Gonchar for this year. I\'m not sure about Hossa, as I said, I can probably buy him back for the same price.
