Who would you take as a third string goalie in a one year h2h pool?

Wins, GAA, SA%, and Shutouts.

For the wins I\'d take Ward no doubt. I see the Canes winning the Southeast division.

For the rest the choice isnt\'t as easy. I really like Chicago D-squad but it may needs another season to mature. Beside Khabibulin is a band-aid boy. Kolzig is as consistent as they come and though Washington greatly improved in the offseason, their defense is still suspect to me. At the end of it I think I\'d stick with Ward as my first choice.

What if you need the other stats more? I have MA Fleury and Lundqvist.

Ward. He\'s been working out this off-season with Brind\'Amour, and should post terrific numbers.

would have to agree with ward , mainly because he should have better #\'s on a team which should have more wins than both chicago,or/and wash.

Hmmm...

Considering you already have Fleury and Lundqvist, it\'s pretty obvious you are going to get a TON of wins from both of those players. So if I were in your skates, I would take Khabibulin.

Breaking down the stats, both goalies were very similar. Besides the 5 extra wins that Ward had over Khabibulin, I pay attention to the facts that Khabibulin allowed 4 fewer goals (163 to 167) and made 43 more saves (1668 to 1625), nudging his save percentage to .902 compared to Ward\'s .897 ... and the goals against average for Khabibulin was just a tad lower at 2.86 --- compared to Ward\'s 2.93.

This all obviously gets thrown out of the window with the dawn of the oncoming season, but to me, Khabibulin is a better snag, because you are already going to win a ton of games with your other two eastern conference starters, but goals against average and save percentage are up for grabs on a weekly basis. What\'s the point of winning 6-7-8 games a week in your league if your opponent only wins 3 or 4???

I also believe Khabibulin is slightly on the upswing while Ward is trying not to get stuck in a complacent situation in Carolina, and might be slightly on the downswing.

Even though it\'s obvious to (almost) everyone that Ward is the best choice, I would pick Khabibulin!

Funny my first instinct was Khabi based on the other stats you need - then I read HockeyGuild\'s post and it exhausted my arguments. I think it really is splitting hairs between Khabi and Ward - call it gut instinct I guess but I feel a resurgence of the Bulinwall coming on. But how the heck could you be far wrong selecting Ward.
