Hey guys, we\'re around the halfway point in our inaugural draft and I was curious to see what you guys thought. So far my team is:
LW: Ovechkin, Vanek C: Brad Richards RW: Alexander Radulov D: Ryan Whitney, Bryan McCabe, Kimmo Timonen G: Ryan Miller, Chris Mason As always, you can see the list of who\'s been taken here: http://pfhl.12gbfree.com/hockeypicks.html Our league weights offensive stats (goals a bit more than assists, sog, powerplay/sh production) as well as defensive stats (+/-, hits, shots blocked, giveaways, takeaways, etc.) My next pick is some 20 picks away, but I\'m hoping to nail down a good center and right winger, naturally. For centers, I\'m hoping that Toews or Gomez fall to me, but I\'d definitely like to plan far enough ahead that I\'ll have an alternative if they don\'t. I pick again shortly after that and would like to get a right winger somewhere among the two as well. I\'m having trouble finding right wingers though. Most of the starters are taken, and I\'m pretty apprehensive about taking a guy like Murray, and I\'m crossing my fingers that a Boyes or Michalek might fall into my lap. What are your suggestions?

Yeah, the team\'s looking real good...
I\'d spend the next two picks on a \"vet\" right winger and a \"young\" center if there\'s any available... Your defense and left wings are set. Goalies look real good too.

Wow!! You did nice improvement since your last post! FYI, the GM after you just took Michalek :-(
As lanky said, you\'re next priority is definitely a RW. I would pick somebody you can count one. If I use the position in Dobber\'s guide (which might not be the same as in your league), Boyes, Hemsky, Stempniak, Horton, PM Bouchard, Sykora and even Recchi are some of the names that comes to my mind. Yeah, I saw Michalek go.
I think my next picks are going to be either Horton/Boyes/Sykora or a Toews/Getzlaf/Mueller type. I don\'t know how Vanek fell to me at the end of the 4th round but I\'d consider that to be the steal of the draft... Positions are pretty flexible. As commissioner I pretty much determine them, and my philosophy is to use Yahoo, NHL.com, or any depth charts available online. Basically I want it so that guys like Crosby/Ovechkin are defined as C and LW respectively, as that\'s the only real positions they play in real life. Then guys like Jordan Staal, who are natural centers, would also be listed as LW since that\'s realistically what they play. As a result, there\'s some guys that will have a bit of leeway with position definitions.

Well our website is on the fritz now and we\'ve resorted to message board drafting until I can get it fixed...in the meantime though, Getzlaf has gone and I know that Toews is on a few people\'s radar as well. I\'d really like to nab Sykora and Toews but don\'t see it happening...

Toews, Getzlaf are gone.
My turn arrived and I took Horton. He\'s a good RW and he\'s also listed as a C on NHL.com, so I can use him wherever. My next pick is a bit trickier though. I\'m contemplating going with Sykora, because he\'s a bit older and will be on a solid team. Likewise, I\'m considering guys like Jordan Staal and Brad Boyes. Boyes has the talent, and is also technically a C/RW under our system. On the other hand, Staal and Sykora are Pens, and in a league named the PensFans Hockey League that makes them great trade bait. What do you guys suggest?
