Hi all,
I wanted to have your opinion on that trade I just did. I am in a keeper league and I want to get younger and potentially progressing players. In my opinion, I won\'t be close to be competitive this year so I am deciding to sacrifice this season but hoping to be competitive in the next year or so. I let Knuble and Numminen go because I figured that Numminen is probably on his last miles of his career anyways at 39 y.o. and Knuble is slowly declining as well at 35 y.o. In return Plekanec has finally arrived with the Habs but is still under the radar. The 1st round draft pick I got will be my 3rd first round draft pick. I have the 3rd, 6th and 7th overall pick (in the first round). This trade gave me the 7th. What do you guys think? |

myself i think you did great. as another one building along the same lines as you i have been trying to stockpile picks for next years draft( i had 3 but dealt one). if your willing to sacrifice this year then i think that is the best thing to do considering some of the talent that will be available next year. i have seen the previews listed here on these kids and i have to say they look dam sweet. so many options to fill in any missing holes, i can\'t wait. my goal is to try to pick up as many high round 1sts as possible then grab the best players i can to fit my franchise.
awesome job in doing a similar thing, keep it up and you\'ll be laughing in the coming years. just think with those picks you could be sitting potentially with a star forward, a franchise defenceman and a franchise goalie depending on how the others pick. sure your going to have to wait a bit for them but lets say 1 or 2 of those kids develops like j.staal or phaneuf, now you have them in your line up immediately and you can\'t go wrong there.

Thanks for your reply! Who do you think are good for 1st round picks? As I said, I am in a keeper league, so there are no Crosby, Patrice Bergeron or Gionta or Gomez available but only very young under the radar players or prospects available.
For my 3 first round picks (3rd,6th and 7th overall) I am considering Paul Statsny (who is probably gonna be gone by the time I get to pick him), Patrick Kane, Alexei Cherepanov (who I think being picked 17th overall instead of top 5 was total insanity) and Shea Weber (D). Any thoughts? |

Man, if you\'ve got guys like Stastny, Kane, Weber available in your 1st round, you absolutely ROCKED that trade. Way to go!
Depending on your positional requirements and statistical categories, I\'d consider grabbing Weber with your 3rd pick. He\'s a stud defenseman that will be good for many years to come. As for your 6th and 7th picks, if you can get guys of the calibre of Kane or Cherepanov, you\'ll be in great shape in a couple of years. Who else might be available? Oh, and I\'d choose Kane over Cherepanov, mostly because of the difficulty in getting the Russian players to cross the pond. Post edited by: raffi, at: 2007/08/19 17:27 |

I think you won that trade - although I do think Knuble is going to have a + sleeper type year.
Since you know you are not competitive and in a building for the future mode - grabbing those picks and young bucks like Plekanec can\'t be wrong. You just have to hope the guys you get or pick will grow their game. I like the options you have in the draft - if not Stastny then Weber for sure with your first pick.

looks like i misread your post(wouldnt be the 1st one lol) i thot you were stockpiling picks for next years draft. to best determine which guys you might choose why not show us a list of the top 10 or so that you think will be available that way we can give you a much better idea.
for sure grab stastny or weber, in our pool weber is almost impossible to get as well as any of the other young stud D men in that age bracket. i\'d like to see who else u have a shot at thats for sure. gl and hope to see a list soon.
