anyone have tips on how to win a newspaper hockey pool ?? The kind where they list 12 players per box and have 20 boxes per example. You have to pick one player per box.

I already know that band aid boys are not to be picked. I am thinking of other tips.

My rule of thumb is : \"if he can\'t do it by himself look somewhere else\".
In other words I try to avoid players whose production relates on his linemates. Sykora, Zubrus, Kunitz to name a few.

A guy in my pool dearly regretted drafting Colby Armstrong last year.

could be me , i gambled and went with armstrong , mind you he was predicted to be high on the pts list but if you do\'nt produce fast with crosby there\'s always someone else to take over.

Newspapers are usually not a keeper league.

In this case, think only one season, this season. Don\'t get fooled by the hype of some young guys. Some young rookies might play the same number of games as band-aid boys or some at the fourth line.

Golly !! Thanks for the tip fergie26. I live in a town of 23 people and our newspaper comes out twice a year. The pool is only played by me and my cousins. One was so pretty, I married her.

So it may be a keeper league after all !!!

if it is one of those pools where a goal is 2 and assist is one...do your math before picking.. for instance..if Tanguay and Langkow are in the same box, stats from last year would read like this...

Tanguay 22 goals and 59 assists = 81 points
Langkow 33 goals and 44 assists = 77 points

however if goals are 2 and assists are 1...then the stats are

Langkow 110 points
Tanguay 103 points
