Default TRADE THOUGHTS?

In a Rotesserie type pool that includes 15 teams and where the protection list prior to drafting is 8 plus 2 rookies, would the following trade offer worth making:

M. Fernandez, G, BOS + 1st overall pick for N. Backstrom, G, MIN & 12th overall pick? Any thoughts?

Thanks
Nighthawks54

Hello and welcome Nighthawks!

I would prefer to own Backstrom over Fernandez. Backstrom is 29 while Fernandez is 32. The system and team, in Minnesota, will get Backstrom more wins than Fernandez in Boston.

Your trade decision is really based on what is available to you with the first pick. Will that first pick potentially win you the pool? If you have the 12th pick, (I am assuming that you finished in 4th spot and you didn\'t get this pick because of trades) in your pool, of 15 teams, then you must have quality players and depth. What player would be available to you at #1? Could you win the pool? If the trade potentially has that kind of an impact then I would do it.

Would really need to know what you could get at #1.

Players available in the draft is key, as well as who else you have in goal. I have the feeling I would be reluctant to give up my #1 pick overall to obtain a 2nd year goalie. Kinda risky but really depends on who is available via draft in the 1st and the 12th.

In order to answer your question you really need to give us an idea on who is available with the #1 - 12 picks. If the talent pool is marginal and/or diluted then it may not be a bad deal but if you are giving up the likes of a Kane, Mueller or even Espo for someone like an Eller, then this deal would not be worth it. Remember Harding is also a very fine goalie waiting for his shot too.

Gee this isn\'t that easy a call - the margin favoring Backstrom over Fernandez is there, but by how much - better than #1 pick over #12 - not sure? I, too, would be very interested in seeing the available draftees before I made this trade.
