The minus on EDM last year should make him feel right at home.
However, there aren\'t a lot of young DMan that have flashed his type of offensive potential.
I think he\'s worth hanging onto for another year.
Hopefully your league isn\'t like mine and counts the +/-.
It does...
But it also has a salary cap and I have Pitkanen for cheap.
I can feel the bleeding already...

I completely disagree with these statements. Pitkanen\'s not likely to have a huge breakout season in this lineup, I grant you, but \"he will fold\"? The kid should still top 40 and if he can just stay healthy for once he may finally reach 50. And as for him not being able to score... he scored 13 goals in 58 games as a rookie, I don\'t see that as particularly lacking in ability to put the puck in the net. He had an awful sophomore season... and if \"awful\" is 43 points (+/- aside...), then I can\'t wait to see \"decent\" and \"good\" down the line.

Pitkannen is a left-handed shot, as is Souray. I still think that it makes the most sense to pair them up for the #1 PP but they may use the right-handed Stoll with Pitkanen on the #2 PP and pair Souray with someone else.

Still, I think that Pitkannen will be fine.

I never said his production would suffer, I think he\'ll be around 40 points again this season. I think his plus/minus will be \"minus\" again though since edmonton doesn\'t have any \"defensive\" defenders on their team.

When I say, \"LORD KNOWS he can\'t score, I was refering to the fact that he has a total of 4 goals in 77 games last season. That\'s not a \"scoring\" defender. His specialty is his passing as far as I\'m concerned...

Also, he had 8 goals in his rookie season and 13 in his sophomore season. Last year was his third year in the NHL.

You\'re right, that was my bad. And I agree that his +/- won\'t be great. But I still disagree with the \"can\'t score\" characterization after just one bad season. I\'ve ripped off more managers over the years because they made exactly that mistake.

Giraffe. I think your comments were made after Edmonton signed Souray. You were feeling much more confident in your analysis.

I will acknowledge that I was to hard on him in the first instance, \'he will fold\', but I don\'t think he will match the numbers of last year. Mind you Souray might help him, if he can stay healthy. He is also going to notice a difference playing in the west.

I actually hadn\'t taken Souray into account. I\'ve been pretty firmly in Pitkanen\'s corner since before he came into the NHL, and I still think that he has Norris caliber potential.

I am probably in a distinct minority predicting 10+ goals and 45+ points in Edmonton this season.

pitkanen will be fine in edmonton. good players dont stop being good because they change sweaters. the guy that you should be worried about here is roloson especially if they pair pitkanen with souray. thats a combined -53 on a team that has no scoring depth.

Here\'s a defenseman for you to consider:
3 goals first year
1 goal second year
3 goals third year
3 goals fourth year

From this, what do you think his goal-scoring ability is?

Here\'s another one:
8 goals first year
13 goals second year
4 goals third year

This is Pitkanen, obviously. Can\'t score goals? Based on those numbers? Then the first player must be even more hopeless.

But, his name is Sheldon Souray and he scored 26 times last year. B)

Oh dobber... lol. I won\'t argue with you about souray... it took him 7 seasons to put up more than 3 goals... but you gotta admit, playing for new jersey in the nineties behind stevens, rafalski, and niedermayer didn\'t help his playing time or scoring any.

But yes dobber you\'re right... 6 season\'s from now (when he is playing in his 9th NHL season - like souray was this year), Pitkanen might have 20+ goals... but that\'s a ways away.

I think it\'s interesting for more than one reason that you compare souray to pitkanen, as niether posted many shots on goal in their first few seasons, both were traded after their third season from an atlantic division team to a canadian team, both are injury prone, and extremely unreliable in their own ends...

So yeah... souray did ok this year, but I don\'t think the majority of the readers here are willing to wait that much more time for pitkanen to put up those goal totals.

Shots equal goals... pitkanen just doesn\'t fire the puck as much as some other defenders do. Plain and simple.
