I'd keep the better keeper, and I think that's Kane by a good bit. I'd keep him over Purcell too.

Gonna agree to disagree majorly on this one. Time will tell I suppose.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I did decide to deal Kane. I ended up trading him and two late picks for a second round this year and a second round next year. Second round picks in our last draft were Hartnell, Hamilton, Voynov, Schwartz, etc., so there's some pretty good talent available there.
So with the move, I can protect Kadri instead, and get a couple of good players in the draft. Or, if need be, trade those picks for help this year to hold on to my lead if second place makes a charge (guys are already thinking of dropping players in the offseason, so the market for picks is higher than the market for players right now). Thanks again all.

I sure don't agree with that assessment but I sure like your earlier posts in the thread.
Coming on the trade deadline in a points only league, I think he cashed nicely. Basically he got Kadri and 2 pretty sweet picks for 2013 and 1 for 2014. In limited keepers those picks are very important for stoking the depth you need to keep winning. Yeah in other leagues it probably isn't such a good deal for Kane but in this case, I quite like the move.

he traded another team a keeper and neither upgraded his keeper nor got a first round pick out of the deal to me this is a deal he could have gotten in the offseason prior to declaring keepers but he gave up production the rest of the way for a couple of 2nd rounders and that is not even getting into the whole purcell thing i just feel that this was a low sell on someone with kanes upside sometimes the right move is throwing the player into the pot rather than making a trade that doesnt make enough sense and to me this trade just didnt make enough sense |

By comparison, last week, Quick was dealt straight up for a second rounder. So to get what I did for Kane was massive. I had no takers for Kadri. So trading him wasn't an option. With my pool, the closer we get to the drop deadline, the less you can get for guys, even though that deadline is months away. For example, the guy who offered me the third rounder would have had a choice to drop Kane or Jordan Staal. As we got closer to the offseason, that offer would get worse, as he would probably think it wasn't worth it to drop Staal in favour of Kane and lose a third-round pick. Also, Kane wasn't counting for me in the pool, which is why I made him available. My final thought process was this: I'm in first place this year, and want to try and win again next year. I have no doubt that three, four, five years from now, Kane will be better than Purcell. But the rest of this year and next year? I don't think he will be. I think Purcell will get more points. Kadri and Kane will be close next year, but if I get more for Kane, it's better to make that deal. I do appreciate all the input from everyone. I'm glad other people are as passionate about my team as I am. :-)

^ What he said. I like the return you got, but like I said earlier I still personally would have just gone Kadri and Kane. Kadri is already proving me right and I think Kane will too but I can see why you came the decision you did as well.
Hope it works out for ya! |
