I don't think they would trade a 2nd for a backup goalie when they can sign one for free and probably a cheaper contract too.

I would suspect that Bishops value (along with all other RFA's) would increase when most of the UFA's are signed. Tricky situation.

i think there are a lot more goalies out there than there are jobs to be honest with you

i am not saying he cant be traded but i also wouldnt be shocked if he couldnt be traded

hell look at a guy like emery everyone thought his career was over but he is playing well and is only 30 he will hit the market next season in addition to the khudobins and greiss not to mention the glut of veteran backups that will be available

bernier is on the block and hiller or fasth and luongo etc etc

the market is flush with goalies looking for jobs and there arent as many jobs out there as people think

I do like this thinking. They would not be crippled in any way if they couldn't get something in return for him.

No one said they would be crippled, we are just trying to explain to you the bad market for goalies right now.

Detroit - if the lose Howard
Columbus

Philly
Toronto
and Washington....wouldn't trade a 2nd for Bishop.

Looking at the market now.....

Backstrom
Smith
Howard
Nabokov
Khabibulin
Thomas
Emery
Khudobin.......are all unrestricted

Not counting Rask or Markstrom....here is a list of the RFA's

Mason, Bobrovsky, Bernier, Neuvirth, Allen, Enroth, Bachman, Rynnas, Poulin.

A lot of goalies looking for homes next year.

What is Bishop? A starter? A good backup? A back up with potential to be a starter?
Don't think Thomas is a UFA is he? NYI traded for his contract rights and he still has 1 year left if memory serves me. He's have to honour his final year (should he return) before becoming a UFA.

Sorry...this is off track, but it caused the question to pop up in my mind. Am I correct in my thinking?

the islanders already said they would not toll the contract forward so no he becomes a ufa after this season

And I'm saying there will always be a market for a young potential starter with his size and RFA status.

Good call Ev.

I must admit I was wrong. They got more than what I thought they would

Looking at it now, I can't say I made a good call because I said he'd be a Blue Jacket and didn't even list Tampa as a potential landing spot
