12 team H2H 5x5 keeper league (keep 8)
My third year in the league and I inherited an awful team. Made a few deals and am hoping to make the cut for the playoffs this year. There are a GLUT of pitchers that enter the draft every year. Teams keep anywhere from 0-2 starters, so hitting is at a real premium in the draft. I intend to roll into the draft with 1SP (King Felix), but need help with my other 7 keepers. So far, I'm thinking I should keep: 2B - Kipnis SS - Reyes 3B - Headley, Moustakas OF - Ellsbury, Pence SP - Felix Hernandez Then I can keep one of my bubble players: Ryan Howard, Dan Uggla, Brett Gardner, Jurickson Profar, Billy Hamilton, Adam Wainwright, Matt Latos, Kris Medlen I've got good speed, but need power badly. Which one should I keep? Would anybody on this bubble list replace one of the 7 listed above? There is also the possibility of shelling out draft picks for Verlander (expensive), Austin Jackson (cheaper) or Goldschmidt (cheaper) instead of the bubble players. Worth it? Help! I would seriously consider taking someone else over Moustakas. Hard not to keep Profar
If you need power Howard may be your man, but I'd be interested in finding out how cheap you can get Goldschmidt for.

What's wrong with keeping Moustakas from this list? Young 3B that can mash.
Howard's another power option and I'd agree on looking into Goldschmidt. |

I'd (usually) rather keep a few of the other guys at positions that aren't already filled.

I should mention the roster spots:
C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, OF x5, DH, Util x2 and also one 2B/SS slot and one 1B/3B slot. So there may be value in holding another 3B like Moustakas. Not keeping Profar would be tough, but I will of course try to redraft him. I will check into Goldy - Papelbon is also available. I was just sent an opening offer of Verlander and Papelbon for my 2nd, 5th, and 12th (19 round draft)... |

Goldschmidt for a 2nd rounder is the asking price...

I'd keep Wainwright as your last keeper, Goldschmidt for a 2nd round pick? That's pretty tempting. What's the value of a second round pick in your league/what other players could you get for a 2nd rounder?

8 keepers and 12 teams, so by the beginning of the 2nd round there are 108 players off the board. I pick 8th in that round (116th player off the board).
Last year players taken in the 2nd round were: 109 Jason Heyward, Atl OF 110 Ichiro Suzuki, NYY OF 111 John Axford, Mil RP 112 Neil Walker, Pit 2B 113 Ryan Madson, Cin RP 114 Matt Cain, SF SP 115 Dee Gordon, LAD SS 116 Ian Kennedy, Ari SP 117 Madison Bumgarner, SF SP 118 Adam Lind, Tor 1B 119 Ricky Romero, Tor SP 120 J.J. Putz, Ari RP So the question becomes: Ryan Howard or Wainwright and keep my 2nd round pick, or Goldschmidt and lose the pick... I hesitate on Wainwright because of the glut of quality arms in the draft - Cain and Bumgarner were not kept and went in the 2nd round last year for example! Thanks for the input gents. Much appreciated! Last edited by Puck Hog; 03-14-2013 at 12:40 AM. |
